ABOUT ME

I landed a government job doing social work "temporarily." I ended up liking it though so I guess I'm in it for the long haul. One of the perks of course is the amount of vacation time they give, at least for American standards. One day I realized I had some cash saved and some vacation days accrued, so I went to Europe for a month. This was completely life changing as I had no idea how incredible backpacking around foreign countries could be. Throughout this and a few other Euro trips, I fell in love with hostels, train travel, meeting and hanging out with both locals and tourists, European beer, European football, and of course that general sense of freedom and euphoria of merely being in a strange place. Also, I met a ton of backpackers in the midst of epic round-the-world trips ranging from months to years. I thought it was crazy at first but I was extremely intrigued ever since I first heard about such a thing. A couple years went by of me taking four week long mini vacations and I successfully negotiated a six month leave of absense from my job and did Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia and New Zealand. It was easily my biggest accomplishment, at least so far. Next after that was Iceland, and then a six week trip to South Africa for the World Cup. I was lucky enough to see 11 matches! And now South Africa comes in as my most extensively traveled country. Did Northern Europe after that, getting up to Scandinavia and the Baltic area. This summer we're planning a big trip to India and Nepal so stay tuned, I cannot wait!

PHILOSOPHY

I tend to live a care-free kind of life, while maintaining a well rounded basic level of respect for all different kinds of people. I think people should live their life the way they want and not impose their beliefs on others. And if you don't agree with this, you are wrong! (just kidding)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Couchsurfed a bunch, hosted a few times, went to a few events in Philly. Always great times, great people, lots of fun. I want to host more but suburban New Jersey isn't really on the tourist trail.

兴趣

Traveling of course! Specifically hosteling and backpacking. Otherwise, I love playing and listening to music. I love driving, Belgian beer (not necessarily at the same time), and film. I'm typically into the artistic and technical sides of things.

Movies: Kubrick, Jeunet, Eisenstein. Music: prog rock, jazz fusion, Scandinavian metal. I love jamming mostly in funk/rock/jazz styles. I find myself only reading non fiction these days.

The amazing people from all over the world I've talked to, had a beer with, shot pool with, shared a room/taxi/rickshaw/tuk tuk/guide with, compared countries and cultures, and had a laugh with. This is the whole point of traveling for me and my life is substantially better for it.
