About Me
Hi, I’m Saku :) That’s Finnish for something biblical, Japanese for ”to bloom” 🌸
I’m originally from Finland, but currently living as a student in the Hague, Netherlands! Before my studies I used to be traveling almost constantly for two years, in Europe, the Middle East, South Asia and North/West Africa. At the moment I'm less free to travel due to my studies, however I still aim to maintain a certain amount of intensity in my daily life by exploring new things and getting outside of my comfort zone! :)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I have traveled alot and my amazing experiences are largely thanks to the amazing people I’ve met along the way. I hope to give back to the community by hosting people at my place when I can.
Interests
Languages, traveling, hitchhiking, meditation, fashion, culture, geography, food, running, yoga, music, religion… it’s a long list!
I’m a very curious person with a lot of interests, I love to learn new things so I’m happy to hear about your interests, whatever they might be!
Music, Movies, and Books
I try to be intentional with the music I listen to, placing a strong significance on lyricism. Usually I tend to gravitate towards rap, but occasionally other genres as well. My favorite artist at the moment is probably Lupe Fiasco. Go listen to Ms. Mural and tell me that’s not top tier penmanship. You can’t!
My favorite book is probably Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse :) The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle is another one that’s been very influential for me!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
10-day Vipassana meditation retreat, the iron ore train in Mauritania, hitchhiking Turkey-Iran-Pakistan-India, serving in the Finnish military, walking 100km in one day, running a marathon, seeing the northern lights, sleeping on the streets of Naples, working at an English-speaking kids’ summer camp in Ukraine, climbing the base camps of Rakaposhi and Nanga Parbat, experiencing the life as a shepherd in Pakistan, ice swimming, eating camel meat (i’m vegan now), and so many more! I guess I’m addicted to adventure 🙄
Teach, Learn, Share
Languages! I can speak a few and I’d always be down to teach basics of any of them or just practice speaking. Would love to learn basically any language you can teach me!
