To me, travelling is more about living and breathing the new short-term life than just visiting a new place. My favourite parts of travelling are wandering in the street I've never been to, being exposed to different perspectives, taste new flavours and cuisines, share stories with people I never met before, and have a good conversation. And I believe that the best souvenir from each place you visit is the friendship that you build with a local. :)
