About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Help humanity reevaluate... well... everything

ABOUT ME

I'm an anthropologist at heart and a midwife by trade. I love people, but I'm also an introvert... so I often wear myself completely out visiting! I keep very busy with volunteer positions, usually something to do with human rights and social justice. I am a mom of three (15, 18, 21) and a grandma to one (2) who I delivered myself! I don't talk much about my experiences, but for the most part I've "been there" and "done that", which makes me pretty accepting of all kinds of people and ideas.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe in personal autonomy above all else. A person should be able to make her own choices (and be expected to live with the consequences of those choices) as long as they do not directly harm another person. I respect everyone who constantly strives to do what they believe is right, and it doesn't much matter to me what their "right" is.... as long as it's respectful of other "rights".

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I mostly look for a place to crash on my long trips across the country to various conferences. I hope to host when I get a bigger house!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I spend a lot of time sleeping "wherever there is a flat spot" at homebirths, but I camp a lot when I travel. I am trying this out as a way to be more connected to the world I'm traveling through.

Interests

I am very interested in activism and social justice, and I spend most of my free time working for organizations that promote human rights and try to make the world a better place. I live on land that my family has owned for years, and I enjoy trying to find ways to live simply and self-sufficiently. I have chickens and goats, and my grandpa's cows and horses come to visit on a regular basis.

Music, Movies, and Books

Been reading mostly textbooks for years, but I did take a break to read the Twilight series with my daughter. Also enjoyed the Wicked series by Gregory Maguire. I love most music (not polka... sorry, I did try), and I don't really like most movies because sitting still and doing nothing productive for two whole hours makes me a little bonkers! I do love "Gone With the Wind", "Memoirs of a Geisha", "Fight Club", and various other movies that have edified me in some way.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Well, I attend births. That's pretty amazing. I've also been a professional wrestling promoter, lived in a tent for months with three children under 6, been rich, and helped my husband die a year long death from liver cancer. That was amazing. Tragic, but amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach all about childbirth, wordpress, various computer software, event planning, and how to make your own soap!
