About Me

Greetings fellow travelers! 🌍

My name is Sawon Dey, and I hail from the picturesque region of Sylhet, Bangladesh. After completing my bachelor's degree in accounting, I decided to follow my true passion—developing the tourism sector in my home region.

Currently, I am deeply involved in promoting tourism through hands-on projects such as running a homestay and leading a community-based tourism initiative. My goal is to highlight the hidden gems of Bangladesh, starting with my own village and the surrounding areas. By creating unique experiences for travelers and working to build sustainable tourism practices, I hope to share the beauty and cultural richness of my country with the world.

When I'm not immersed in these exciting tourism projects, I split my time between the vibrant city of Sylhet and the serene surroundings of my hometown, Juri. In Juri, I live with my incredibly warm and flexible family, a group of 11 amazing individuals who redefine the meaning of hospitality. We're not just a family; we're a close-knit community, and our home is filled with laughter, stories, and an open-hearted welcome to everyone who crosses our threshold.

Our little village, Juri, is a treasure trove of diversity. Surrounded by lush tea gardens, you'll have the opportunity to explore the lives and culture of tea garden workers. If you're intrigued, a visit to the tea factory is a possibility—I can arrange it for you. Additionally, our village is home to tribal groups like the Khasi and Manipuri, offering you a chance to visit their communities and immerse yourself in their unique lifestyles.

Curious to know more about us? Feel free to explore the glowing reviews on my Couchsurfing profile, where fellow travelers have shared their enriching experiences with my family and me. Our home is not just a place to stay; it's a haven of friendliness, cultural exchange, and unforgettable memories.

So, if you're seeking an authentic and welcoming experience in Sylhet or Juri, look no further. Whether you're passing through for a night or staying a bit longer, our doors are wide open, ready to embrace you into our unique world.

Safe travels, and I hope to welcome you soon!

Music, Movies, and Books

I have a deep love for local folk music and cultural tunes, especially the soulful Baul songs and folk fusion that capture the spirit of Bangladesh. There's something about the raw, authentic sound of these traditional melodies that resonates with me.

When it comes to movies, I’m drawn to adventure and thriller films—stories that keep you on the edge of your seat and take you on a journey.

As for books, I enjoy reading thrillers, travel stories, and suspense novels, with a bit of comedy thrown in to keep things light!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of the most amazing things I’ve done is to be the first person in my region to start a homestay initiative. By opening my home to travelers from all over the world, I’ve not only promoted eco-friendly tourism but also created a platform for cultural exchange in my village. This initiative has inspired local communities, and I’m now working with the Bangladesh Tourism Board to further develop community-based tourism in the area.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: I love sharing insights about Bangladeshi culture, especially the diverse traditions of my village, including the lifestyles of tea garden workers and local tribal communities. I’m also passionate about sustainable tourism and enjoy teaching others how to explore in a way that respects local environments and cultures.

Learn: I’m always eager to learn about other cultures, new languages, and innovative approaches to tourism. I believe that every traveler has a unique perspective, and I’m constantly learning from the guests I host.

Share: I’m happy to share my experiences in developing community-based tourism and running a homestay. I can also share travel tips for exploring the hidden gems of Bangladesh, as well as my personal stories of adventure and hosting.
