About Me

First of all I have to apologize, I have been inactive for nearly a year now due to work-related time issues. However, now I intend to be a good host from now on, so feel free to contact me even though my response rate is practically non-existent (*shame on me*)

Hey guys,
I am a half Polish, half German guy from Germany called Axel. I am 26 years old, but awaiting my 27th birthday in a month.
I am currently working at the University of Heidelberg and doing my masters (Archaeology) at the same time.

But what's there to say about me?
I consider myself an open-minded person, easy to talk to, fun to be with (I hope^^). I enjoy company as much as I do trips into nature. I am part of an archaeological excavation campaign on Crete, where I work as something like a logistic and storing manager, mainly.

I take pride in being half polish, so no bad comments on that one :-P But I am not only keen to meet other Polish people, on the contrary, I am interested in learning everything there is to know (high goals, I know, but a man can at least be interested, right?^^).
Another important thing about me is that I am a non-smoker. I don't see the sense in it, honestly^^ I don't mind people doing it, though.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

In 2011/12 I did a big travel trip through New Zealand, Australia and South East Asia and without Couchsurfing and the amazing people I've met it would not have been half as amazing as it was. Now I want to give somehting back. I know, it took me long enough, but I got caught up in daily routine stuff and kind of let it slide. However, now I am more determined than ever to return the favour by hosting and showing what Germany and Heidelberg in particular has to offer. Couchsurfing is a great way to discover the world, to feel welcome wherever you are!

Interests

Well, let us start with the obvious: Music! not only listening to it, though. I enjoy playing the piano or the guitar (there ARE possibilities to improve^^) and singing. I started an ensemble (or Accapella band, if you want) with three friends of mine; we sing all kinds of songs and have fun while doing it. Additionally I also take private singing lessons.

I finished the Tough Mudder (an extreme dirty run^^) and engaged in other similar events, so it is apparent I like sports, as well. I could be more active, sure, but whenever some friends meet up to play football, rugby, ultimate frizbee or something similar I never refuse ;)

I like to watch good movies, especially the ones with interesting techniques or premisses. Of course sometimes I watch a "dumb" movie, but I would not call that an interest, but just a time killer^^

Spending time with friends also takes up some time on my life. We do barbeques (man, I LOVE steaks!) or go out or just relax while drinking a nice hot coffee.

I am keen on learning new languages. During my studies I learned to speak Russian and have now started to learn Norwegian. Even though I don't understand most languages I find it fascinating how they are built, how they work.

Music, Movies, and Books

Only to list some of my favourite movies:
Jurassic Park, V for Vendetta, Star Wars, Memento, 2001: A Space Odyssey
It's a lot more, but that's maybe a topic for a longer talk? ;)

I am a huge fan of Country and Accapella music, my favourites being Josh Turner and Pentatonix. I like listening to it and singing it myself, also with others. I enjoy a good musical, as well, and sing the songs in my free time. But apart from these, I dig a big variety of music, except for techno, dubstep and the likes. Once in a decade a good techno song may come to exist, though^^

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

There were at least three big events in my life:
I've run the Hamburg Marathon and completed it! It was an awesome feeling to cross the "Finish"-line. I intend to have this feeling again in May this year

I've climbed the highest peak in Poland, which is "Rysy"(height: 2490m). I have acrophobia, which makes this for me even more special!

My journey around Oceania was THE best time of my life and I am always happy to talk to others about it since it had huge impact on my life.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to play basic guitar or piano, but don't set too high standards. If you are interested in learning Polish or want to improve your German, I will be glad to help ;)
With a little practice I could try to cook something typically Polish for you :)
