About Me

CURRENT MISSION

On my never-ending mission to find the best and fattiest plain yogurt this world has to offer.

ABOUT ME

I was born and raised in Iran until 16. I guess compared to most Iranians and most Canadians, I grew up in a different world. Compared to most Iranians, I was raised in a very liberal, highly-educated and Westernized family. Relative to most Canadians, I grew up in a third-world land and have done and seen some wacky things that most people here wouldn't believe.

I have a proper conventional side to me as well as a darker,"alternative" one. The former has me wearing suits and ties, going to nice restaurants, buying tickets to classical music concerts, and reading The Economist on a Sunday afternoon. The latter, sadly not dominant and in fact dormant most of the time, has me attracted to punk and goth culture and fashion, dirty eateries, piercings, tattoos, and alternative lifestyles.

There's an urge within me to drop everything (friends, home, job, studies) and travel for years and years. For now, unfortunately, I'm keeping that urge under control, but maybe one day I'm lucky enough and it will burst out. That's why I'm on this website, meeting all these wonderful travellers who are living my dream. Come stay with me and we'll have some good times.

My motto in life is 'moderation', but even moderation needs to be done moderately. One thing I can't ever do in moderation is sports. I love sports and exercise, and that includes a lot of activities from weightlifting to basketball to surfing.

I like to think I'm very chill, easy going, sociable, and proper (yes, proper). And I love my life, the people in it, and all the big, small, and even what you might think as irrelevant joys of it--everything from cooking and eating to coming out of a shower in the winter to a warm, toasty towel.

WHY YOU'RE NOT GETTING YOUR COUCHREQUESTS ACCEPTED
I see this all the time: a new profile with 0 references asking me to couchsurf with me. Fine, we all have to start from somewhere, and I started from 0 references as well. But then I look at their profile and it's got 5 sentences in total and 3 pictures (none of which really shows their face, and 2 of them are grainy). If you don't have references, at least put some effort into your profile. Show your potential hosts that you understand what CS is about.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've almost exclusively hosted couchsurfers and done very little couchsurfing myself. So far I've only couchsurfed twice: once in Frankfurt and once in Montreal. But I have stayed with friends who I had hosted previously.

I love this website and I love its concept. For me, it's the only way I can partially satisfy my inner flame for travel and adventure without actually leaving my city.

Please note that I am not interested in hosting anyone who's just looking for a place to stay for free and that's it. If your profile is empty, if you haven't replied to 40% of the couchrequests, if you send a one-liner generic request, then I'm not your person.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Oh, I've had great CS stories and I have one particular amazing, cheesy story that shaped more than a year of my life, but not to be shared on a website. EDIT: 5 years of my life.

I've also had bad ones. Lady who left my apartment without saying goodbye and leaving a trace of mud and sand everywhere from the dryer to the bedroom: I'm talking to you.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was diving in Barbados one day when I, all by myself, was suddenly surrounded by more than a dozen (friendly) eagle rays that were circling me about 5-8 meters away. It was pretty crazy.
