About Me

I'm from the USA (Tennessee), but I live in Poland. This has confused a lot of people that I've met on here, so I'm just letting you know up front. Also, Roy is my surname, not my first name. I'm not that militant about saying my name right, but a few guests called me Roy and I feel bad correcting people.

I am not a MAGA psycho. I don't support any of the wars, coups or genocides that my country has engineered over the years. I'm not afraid to talk about American politics or society though. People often ask me questions when they find out I'm American and I'm happy to answer them the best I can!

I have lived in Poland since 2019. My wife and I consume culture and travel as often as we can. We are never jaded or bored by traveling and seeing new places, and we love FOOD! Some favorite regions of mine/ours are the South Caucasus, Central Asia, China, Turkey, West Asia, and Italy.

For guests:

I get tons of requests written like job motivation letters and they're boring as shit. I don't mind if you use a template but I get tons of requests with zero character or personality that I just ignore because idk how to respond to them. I am a host, not a recruiter!

We both work, so please only request to stay with us if you're comfortable with spending time by yourself around the city. We'll try our hardest to make time to meet you and do something together, but no promises. For that reason, we prefer self-sufficient travelers who are fine spending time on their own.

We are more than happy to give suggestions on things to do during your stay and we will!! But if you think you need a local guide to show you around all day then we aren't the best choice for you. Enjoy the freedom and come and go from our home as you wish (:

We are happy to host other travelers. If you want to stay with us, all I ask is that you read my entire profile. Let me know in your message that you did. I'll know immediately if you didn't and I will decline your request without remorse! For the past few months I have rejected 90% of requests because people don't read my profile.

Please message me with more than just "hi." That tells me nothing about you, your personality, or your intentions for hanging out with me, so I will ignore you, even if you are graciously offering to host me.

Only add me on social media if we have met in real life or have agreed to meet.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Half of my trips are solo. I like meeting people and making new connections, which this app has helped me with a lot. I used to be extremely introverted. Still am, but less so now thanks to CS 😎

Music, Movies, and Books

Music- Kneecap, Umm Kulthum, Underworld, Danny Brown, Bladee, Converge, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Björk, Baroness, Barış Manço, Wiki, Freddie Gibbs, Subsonic Eye, Fishmans, Slowdive, Fontaines D.C., Кино, Nine Inch Nails, The Avalanches, Four Tet, many more. This list hardly scratches the surface.

Books- Thomas De Waal, Edward Said, Wojciech Górecki, Leslie Chang, Svetlana Alexievich, Elif Shafak, Patrick Radden Keefe, many more.

Movies- Directors like Lee Chang-Dong, Wong Kar Wai, Wim Wenders, Werner Herzog, Agnieszka Holland, Agnes Varda, Sergei Parajanov, Abbas Kiarostami, Sean Baker, etc. I'm not really into Marvel or Disney movies. The Color of Pomegranates is an all time fav and a more recent one I really liked was No Other Choice by Park Chan Wook 😎

What I Can Share with Hosts

One billion trillion dollars...but seriously, I will respect you, your rules/customs and your time. I've witnessed CS users taking advantage of their hosts and it drove me insane. I'm not sure what kind of cultural exchange I can offer as an American dude from the suburbs but I'll try my best 😁
