About Me

I'm a biomedical engineer working with neonatal health infrastructure in Malawi. I'm very friendly and passionate about learning pretty much everything (which is why I'm trying to learn a ridiculous amount of languages, but not getting much past "Hello" and "I'm tired" in any of them).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My favorite thing about couchsurfing is being able to make a home in most cities that I travel to. Couchsurfing is unique in that it gives the opportunity to see a city on more than just an exterior level, and to meet people that might have never crossed your path otherwise.

Interests

I love photography (analog and digital), music, reading, and being outside. I like dancing of all sorts, especially salsa, bachata, and swing (though I think my enthusiasm outweighs my skill) and learning new languages. This year, I started doing acroyoga with some friends in Malawi, and have been flying (and falling) ever since.

Music, Movies, and Books

Hard to narrow down. Aerosmith, The Rumour Said Fire, Muse, the Strokes, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Billie Holiday, Nat King Cole, and Hey Marseilles (just to name a few artists), but really anywhere from alt rock to jazz to classical.

My favorite movies are Dogville and Adam's Apples (though, again, hard to narrow down). My favorite books at the moment are Milan Kundera's The Unbearable Lightness of Being, Steven King's short story anthologies, and Haruki Murakami's The Colourless Tsukuru Tazaki.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I spent 2 months in Rwanda fixing hospital equipment with the NGO Engineering World Health (EWH). This time changed my entire perspective on what I wanted out of life and how big the world is, and I can't wait to see that perspective keep changing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love learning new languages, and would love to hear yours and what some of your favorite expressions are.

I like cooking, playing the guitar/harmonica (though I'm not very good at either), and photography. I have some skills in darkroom photography and development, and know a bit about global health initiatives and challenges, and biomedical engineering research that I'd love to share with you.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Traveling experiences, an introduction to acroyoga (all you need is a flat piece of ground and a healthy appreciation for falling), and discussions about food, global health, and anything you find interesting.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, Denmark, Dominican Republic, France, Ireland, Nepal, Netherlands, Northern Ireland, Rwanda, South Africa, Spain, Tanzania, Turkey, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In

Germany, Malawi, United States
