About Me

Hi! My name is Sophie, I'm from San Francisco, California, where I lived until moving to Minnesota for university. I graduated from college in May and have been traveling since. I'm currently preparing for a 10 month trip around Europe. I'll fly into Iceland and the visit some friends in Sweden and Austria. Along the way, I hope to be able to explore and have a better sense of the local cultures of the places I find myself in.

While I've just recently joined couch surfing officially, I've been hosting international friends (from Canada, Sweden, Norway, and all around the US) at my home in San Francisco, so I know a bit about the effort that goes into hosting travelers, and the joy that comes from being able to share ones own hometown with others.

I'm excited to experience new cultures, meet new friends, and embark on adventures and am looking forward to exchanging stories, sharing (hopefully cooking) meals, and having a good laugh!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm interested in meeting new people and experiencing travel through a less touristy perspective.

Interests

I love cooking and food and learning new languages! I also enjoy pickup soccer, basketball, biking, urban exploration, hiking, recreational running, reading both fiction and nonfiction, and watching funny videos on YouTube.

Music, Movies, and Books

Haruki murakami, Sherman Alexie, Celeste Ng, Kurt Vonnegut, Jonathan Franzen, Inside Man, Buen Dia Ramon, narcos, bobs burgers, community, attack on Titan

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One time I completed a beginner's mountain biking course on a hybrid bike with two fully packed panniers, during a two day overnight bike trip on the South Island of New Zealand.

Teach, Learn, Share

There is so much more in life to learn! I'm most excited to learn about food culture, maybe watch some famous local films, and just talk about life and get to know more about other folks. I also love practicing language, and getting to know people through cooking, baking, and shared meals.

I would love to share a meal, maybe cook for you.

I'm particularly interested in local hikes or good neighborhoods to wander around.

One of my core philosophies is the notion of growth mindset-- we as individuals aren't fixed but are constantly learning, changing, and growing. And I think traveling and meeting new people and being in new places is one of the best ways to keep learning and growing.

What I Can Share with Hosts

An enthusiasm for trying new things, adventure and exploration, and any help around the house I can offer!

I think on of the things I've most enjoyed about traveling is just hanging out with people from all around the world, sharing a beer or a meal and just chatting. These nights are guaranteed to be filled with laughter and smiles!
