About Me

*Before sending a message, please read my entire profile*

I'm Spencer.
I didn't know what I wanted to study when I finished highschool, so I took two years and went to Europe. I still don't know what I want to do (exactly), but I’m studying building engineering at Concordia University in Montreal. The learning experience and quality of time I spent abroad are unmatched and gave me self reliance skills that I use daily.

During Covid I took a break from uni and enjoyed the amazing opportunities that the Shuswap region has to offer. I learned to backcountry ski, became far better at snowmobiling, and taught avalanche awareness safety. In the summer I spent as much time as I could hiking and trail running. I also started my own small construction company and learned so much about running a business and the building process.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

On my trips I really enjoyed the Couchsurfing experiences that I had, and now want to keep sharing the positive message. I found that I was able to meet locals and non tourists, which is so refreshing after staying in hostelsfor months at a time. Couchsurfing to me is more than just someone sharing a couch, and not just the cliché "cultural exchange," it is a way of making new friends and helping others experience the world.

In my time being back in B.C., I've tried to host as many people as possible, which turned out to only be a few, I guess that's what happens when you live in the countryside. I'm now living in Montreal, so I'm looking forward to hosting again!

Interests

Most of my time is spent studying trail running, and now as we approach winter, skiing again. Being outdoors and enjoying nature is what gives life meaning to me. Montreal doesn’t quite compare to the outdoors of BC, but Mont Royal is pretty great!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Missed my train in Slovakia and found all about the rural border crossings that don't accept non-European passports on my way back to Ukraine

Photoshop, lightroom and photography with a range of cameras (except film). I've recently started using illustrator, and love the level of detail that is possible with it.
