About Me

I'm a regular guy. I love good food, music and conversation much like anyone else. I'm a storyteller. I have experiences that I think are quite interesting that I like to share and listen in turn to other people's stories of their experiences and adventures.

I love to travel, so this is a great place to meet travelers. And I want to know about the places that you'd not find on your buzzfeed and lonely planet must see lists. I want to know about the cafe where you get the best roast coffee or the roadside eatery that has the best stir fry or roll. The place you like to go to in your city or town to escape it all (if you're willing to share).

I'm a gamer, a kickass karaoke singer and am awesome at pictionary guessing. I kill at Foosball and am pretty fun/funny.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I met this beautiful person recently who had amazing stories of the people she met on here and I was fascinated by what this could offer. I love meeting people and sharing experiences and stories. I've hosted foreigners in Bangalore for ages now, just never on here. I love talking about cultures, idiosyncrasies that people notice and I have deep love for history and the stories that people have to tell.

So why am I here? I guess to see if I could meet people who love good conversation while chilling out over coffee, a drink or a meal.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love any and every kind of music except Country and Death Metal. I love EDM, alternative rock, anything from the 90s, Indian Carnatic music, hip hop, very select Bollywood stuff (AR Rahman ftw). I like some Classical music like your Beethoven, Mozart and stuff. I like old Hindi music courtesy of my dad. Never really got into Jazz but that's cause I haven't been exposed to too much of it.

Movies, let's see. Anything mainstream from the last 30 years, I've probably seen it. I'm a huge Trek/Star Wars nerd, so there's that. We can argue over who'll win in arm wrestling, Luke vs. Kirk. I love low budget but awesome sci-fi flicks like Coherence and Primer. I'm trying to get into world cinema a bit more, so that's work in progress.

Books. I grew up reading Asimov & Clarke. The Foundation series I've read at least 30 odd times. I love the classics. My favorite is Count of Monte Cristo. I'm a die hard graphic novel guy. V for Vendetta is a classic in my view, as is Sandman. I've read a lot of the Marvel and DC comics but like very few arcs. I love Tom Strong.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

It would have to be my visit to the Andamans and my encounter with the Jarawa tribes while I was passing through their protected land. The Jarawas are a lost tribe, (a part of one of the first human migrations out of Africa from the Cradle of Life times) and they haven't had any contact with human kind until Indians landed on the islands. They are still hunter gatherers and are now protected by the Govt. While on holiday there, our car broke down while passing through their land. We saw a handful of them watching us from a distance with their bows and arrows, naked as the day they were born.

Also, scuba diving in the Andamans was a life changing experience. :)

Teach, Learn, Share

What can I teach? I am fluent in Hindu mythology and Indian history. Both have been passions of mine since childhood.

I'm willing to learn anything new and interesting, be it a language, a song or a new recipe for soup.

Share, my knowledge of the city, cool places to hang out, nice people to meet, fun things to do. We're light on history in Bangalore (as compared to the rest of the country) but we more than make up for it with a kickass bar/restaurant culture.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I've got a pretty comfy place. What's mine is yours (within limit). :) Don't break anything, I guess but other than that, no other hangups.
