Why I'm on Couchsurfing
I have not yet begun. I just ran across this site...I have stayed in a hostel and loved the camaraderie of it and this seems like maybe a step up from that and a little more intimate. I usually travel alone because all my friends are married with children and starting to have grands so i am often on my own.
Music, Movies, and Books
I am a huge fan of Boris Pasternak and Leo Tolstoy, Ron Chernow, Marcel Proust, Oscar Wilde, John Steinbeck and many others. My favorite all time movies are Dr. Zhivago, Grapes of Wrath, Singing in the Rain, Philadelphia, It's a Wonderful Life and many more. Love international movies as well. Netflix has opened up a lot of opportunities to see films that were unavailable in the past so I am learning about all types of cinema that is out there.
One Amazing Thing I've Done
My favorite place in all of the United States is El Morrow National Monument in New Mexico. It is a unique spiritual experience to stand on the top completely alone at sunset when the park is ready to close... My favorite places in Michigan are Mackinac Island , Frankenmuth, Saugutuck and of course many areas around Detroit.
Teach, Learn, Share
I am a college professor by trade but have not taught in a few years.
What I Can Share With Hosts
I am looking around site just now.
My Interests
I really love meeting new people and love learning about people who have different life experiences than I do. I know this site is geared toward a younger crowd but I do not fit in with the traditional crowd. Never been married. No children. I still love to go out, people watch and love art and culture. My main reason for travel is to see art and architecture first hand and to meet great people. I am of Scottish-Irish and German descent but am an American through and through. I have been obsessed with European and Asian culture since childhood. My other obsession is the U.A.E. which I studied exstensively for many of my undergrad coursework.
