Overview
About Me
I'm an easygoing guy who loves to learn and try new things. I'm currently pursuing a PhD in Mathematics at the University of Maryland.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I was introduced to Couchsurfing by my roommate - I had a fantastic experience on my first trip and got to meet some awesome people. Since then, I've gotten to host a bunch of people and surf some more. It's awesome getting to meet travelers coming to the DC area, and getting to know locals when I travel who can show me the best things about their hometown.
Interests
Camping / outdoorsy stuff - I've spent my summers working at a scout camp for more than 10 years! I also enjoy hiking and generally being outside.
Food and cooking - I love to try to make new dishes and learn from other people when I can (and of course, I love to eat too!)
Music - I'm a big fan of classic rock, and I like playing guitar and singing (just for myself mostly - I'm not very good!) I used to play saxophone pretty well, but I'm a bit out of practice.

Music, Movies, and Books
Some favorite music: Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, Deep Purple, Blue Öyster Cult, The Cars, The Band (pretty much any classic rock), RHCP, The Offspring, Sublime, some country here and there (mainly older stuff, but also ZBB). I enjoy old school jazz when I'm in the mood, too.
Movies: Not a huge moviegoer, but I like Dr. Strangelove, the Princess Bride, Lord of the Rings, Christopher Nolan movies, and a mish-mash of other stuff.
Books: I really like Kurt Vonnegut's work (especially Cat's Cradle), the Foundation series by Asimov, Lord of the Rings (again), and a lot of classic fiction. I also like short stories (Kafka, Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky) and poetry (Langston Hughes is my favorite).
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Walking through the streets of Old San Juan during Sanse was definitely unforgettable.
Teach, Learn, Share
Always happy to discuss any of my interests with anyone who is curious, and always looking to learn something new, especially about other cultures. I can teach you about nature, science, cooking, music, knot-tying, and math (although no one ever asks about the last one!)
