About Me

The self-description really do not work. Let me try to explain in no structured manner what I feel and what I love to, that may be more helpful to know a bit about me.

I have not really remembered when I started to believe that living life in segments sucks. The financial security is a myth and it only matters to people obsessed with materialistic needs. There is so much to experience in a human life that we really do not have the time to maintain the balance sheet of life finances and retirement plans. Nature has its own plan for every living thing and that's the only thing which matters. Speaking to nature and its elements in their true form is the most efficient form of language we never understood. The irony is that this unknown feeling can be discovered only by speaking with people from around the world and see what they believe in. What makes them happy?

I am on a journey to continue the experiment with people's culture, habit, literature, and language to understand the world. The culture and roots make what we are today.I was born and brought up in an ancient old city called Varanasi in India and spend 15 years of my life speaking with tourists and backpackers coming theirs in search of Nirvana. I began to travel extensively in my twenties and found that India itself is impossible to cover and understand in a single lifetime.

Nowadays, Living in Bangalore/Vienna nd running a social initiative called Lore-Dialogues and Emotions where we try to collect stories from the roots, coming from people across the country, The stories have the power to connect the world and we try to do the same by encouraging independent artists, filmmakers, musicians, writers to come and create what they really believe. I have organized many events across the city to build a like-minded community where people can discuss what they fell in love with. I am a huge film and book lover and you will either find me on Netflix or indie cinemas or with a book at my home. I am also a published author in Bengali if you know the language, but not a very popular one I guess😊

If I am not home, I might travel and trek in the mountains of Himalayas and roam around the world to meet new people and understand their culture. I am an above average cook and I cook good food quickly for my guests. Meet me in my or your city over a tea and we will talk and laugh a lot...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I like to interact with new people and have a good chat about their thoughts and experience, making new friends and experience the world through the eyes of a traveller. The only way we can reach the heart of a place to look the place by the eyes of a local. Its always great to be engage in a chat with local people and share their food, music, thoughts and lifestyle. It's also to realise how people perceive others and accept what is different with all the dignity. One of my hosts gave me a negative reference just because he had a particular idea about my personality and hygiene choices. We shared a lot, talked a lot about our lives and choice but only impression that left with him was the thing 'how I smelled'. Someone rejected my request thinking I am an illegal immigrant. Someone just wanted to meet because they think I can teach them Yoga. I had a host who hated all people from a certain country. I accept everything with grace. We can't control everything. People are different. They perceive life in their own way. This is also a learning. Couchsurfing teaches us to be easy on life and value all the experiences.

Interests

When I don't work I like to make time to meet new people or friends, go out for a hike, a book, exhibition, museum or movies. I like to read in bed, surf the internet, watch netflix, go to the mountains often and like cycling.

A longer weekend I celebrate mostly in forests, other towns, and lush greenery of Kerala and Western ghats. Have Seen most of India but was felt that I have really completed it. The country has so much to offer.

I travelled England and countries of Southern Europe,Nepal,Scotland, Southern Europe countries, Hungary, Cheque Republic and planning for the rest.:-)

I live in Vienna from 2022. So, mountains are still in my life. But, Alps is different than Himalayas for sure 😊

Music, Movies, and Books

Sunil Gangopadhyay is my childhood favourite Bengali writer among others. I am writing his name first because I want you to try his writing. I have tasted literature from many countries and languages giving a list of few people is really unfair. European poets are great, Latin American authors are awesome, Asian novelists are inspirational, African artists are cool. You should not tag an artist with a brand, art is beyond that.

I like commercial and arthouse movies and almost watch 100 films and web series in a year.
OTT platforms has corrupted me for sure, I admit that. But you can't stop when you discover a great film or series.

My favorite artists are Peter Turnley, Mark Tansey, Twins seven seven, Tomas Sanchez, Gerard Boersma, Peter Blake and Syed Hyder Raza to name a few. I am fascinated by impressionist movement and all other art movement of 19th century. I can look at a Pisarro painting for hours and won't get bored by reading about Van Gogh, Sylvia Plath, Fernando Pessoa, Lorca or any legendary figures.

I write when I feel like it. Several of my work has been published as books in Bengali.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Running away from my college to trek Himalayas for 15 days alone with no money. A month-long trip to Kerala with a minimal budget to explore local cuisine and culture and understand the history of western ghats and tea. Kayaking in North Atlantic ocean to visit grottos of Lagos, Portugal.

Involving myself with too many things which gives me joy but no money at all.

Started a social initiative called "Lore-Dialogues and Emotions" to save stories and literature.

Climbed mountains with amazing people from all over the world. Camped one month in the deep Himalayas and absorbing nature. Taking a dip in the ice-cold water of Pangong Tso lake in Ladakh. Jumped out of running train to see a beautiful village and stay there.

Teach, Learn, Share

I speak Hindi and Bengali, so I could always teach you a little bit of that. And English too, if that's not your first language... I can tell you stories about Indian society, politics or literature and make really good (well, in my opinion anyway) Indian food, using only a few ingredients. I can suggest you mind-blowing films to watch.
We can discuss films, books and travelling all day and I won't get bored by that.

I have a couple of social initiatives in space of storytelling, languages, films, and literature. So I can share my experiences of meeting artists, writers, actors, filmmakers, independent minds from different backgrounds and share the stories I listened in my Himalayan trekking, and backpacking diaries.

One day, I would love to learn how to play guitar, and how to survive in the middle of the sea...

What I Can Share with Hosts

I have a small rented apartment where I live with my soulmate. You can be the part of the family where you will share the home with me. You are open to have food with us or cook your own meal or dine outside.

Its a quite informal setting but you can ask us anything and we will try our best to help you out.Well, the apartment is not technically ours, so there are a couple of restrictions of party hosting and noise.
