About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Help others in need --live consciously--Be part of the solution

ABOUT ME

Born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. Left college to enter airline position and travelled extensively both domestically and internationally. Married, had 3 sons, returned to college, widowed while in grad school (age 36)completed Doctoral program. Worked in penitentiary's, hospitals, clinics, schools, social agencies, and private practice. Raising children and my work has been my life up until last year when I left Florida after 21 years and moved to Colorado into my home and then to California (Bay Area) to stay with my son for the past 11 months. We will move back to Colorado in August of this year (2011).

PHILOSOPHY

To thine own self be true (Shakespeare) and Be the change(Ghandi). I believe living consciously and peacefully is a key to happiness. It was once said by a wise sage 'do no act that you couldn't do in front of the whole world'. I think that's good advice. It may be helpful if our political leaders could grasp the concept and practice it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have just heard about CS through my youngest son so I haven't had the opportunity to surf or host but my son and I will be sightseeing in europe this summer and look forward to meeting and experiencing the many facets of meeting new friends. This fall when I am back in Colorado I will volunteer to host.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My son and I were hosted in 5 different countries by 7 different hosts.  It was a wonderful experience giving us some really great memories.  Hope to continue the adventure in years to come- ongoing and enlightening, connecting the world, one stay at a time.

Interests

Social issues, health & nutrition, meeting new people and making new friends, environmental concerns, learning-exploring-experiencing everything in the most conscious way possible. Recently I attended a 3 day Global Forum on human trafficking and this has become a passionate interest with a desire to participate in some capacity so as to prevent and stop this horrible practice.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love the classics-Maupassant, Dickens, Austen, Dumas, etc. Movies that have substance-Painted Veil, Last of the Mohicans, Shawshank Redemption,Like Water Like Chocolate, Namesake, and of course Gone With the Wind. All kinds of music are good but I'm a pushover for Chopin and Rachmaninoff. Elvis and Michael Jackson too!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I rode a camel out side Egypt to the pyramids and the only English the guides knew were 'hubba hubba and queen of sheba'. It was kind of exhilarating in a terrifying way.
