About Me

I moved to Boulder, Utah after an awesome Couchsurfing experience here had me wanting to stick around, and am thoroughly enjoying this beautiful part of the country. I grew up in New York, lived in New Orleans for a few years, with one year in New Zealand, a few months in India, and a few months backpacking around the US in the mix as well. Couchsurfing has made many of these journeys both possible and fulfilling.
Among my interests are learning, exploring, writing, reading, trees, gardening, hiking, cooking, conversing, and appreciating and have found couchsurfing to be really amenable to these ideas.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: philosophical fiction, creative nonfiction, sci-fi, something used and annotated, something that makes me think... My favorites are always shifting, but most recently have been reading a lot of Ellen Meloy and Tom Robbins.
Music: folk, blues, rock, bluegrass, soul, funk, jam, classic rock, songs that tell a good story, concept albums, something I can dance to.. Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, CCR, Van Morrison, J.J. Cale, Velvet Underground, Tune Yards, Kendrick Lamar, Takenobu, Toure-Raichel Collective, Beck, Bon Iver, Neil Young, David Grisman, Chris Smither, Radio Citizen...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went hiking in the Himalayas during monsoon season, and the clouds were so thick I kept losing the trail. I stopped in the tiniest little chai "shop" (a hut with a tarp roof that also served as a home) because of the pouring rain... When I went back outside, the clouds had cleared and revealed the most intensely textured world- a timid stretch of Dharamshala visible beyond the ridge, the snow-capped mountain peaks of the higher Himalayas above, prayer flags grasping at chords arching between the trees..
