Overview
About Me
Hi, I’m Thiago! I was born and raised on the beautiful island of Florianópolis, Brazil. Right now, I’m living in Rome for an exchange program until March 2025, where I’m studying Computer Science and working remotely as a UX/UI designer.
My background is a blend of cultures: Japanese samurai ancestry from my dad’s side and Croatian, Italian, Portuguese, and African heritage from my mom’s side. This mix sparked my love for exploring the world, connecting with people, and learning about different cultures.
Traveling for me is all about uncovering the history of the places I visit and immersing myself in local life. I love discovering the stories behind each destination and experiencing what it’s like to live as a local, whether it’s through food, traditions, or daily routines.
Outside of work and studies, I’m deeply connected to Japanese culture. I play the shamisen (a three-stringed traditional instrument), the shakuhachi (a bamboo flute), sing Minyo (Japanese folk songs), and practice Shodo (Japanese calligraphy) and Chado (the tea ceremony). These are a huge part of who I am, and I enjoy sharing stories about them, though I don’t bring my instruments with me while traveling.
I’m laid-back, open-minded, and always respectful. I value kindness and believe in treating everyone with dignity, no matter their background, identity, or beliefs. At the same time, I don’t tolerate racism, homophobia, transphobia, or any form of discrimination.
For me, Couchsurfing is about creating connections. We may not share the same hobbies, but we already have two important things in common: a love for traveling and meeting people from all over the world.
As a guest, I’m happy to contribute however I can, whether it’s helping with cooking, cleaning, or just being good company. I’m always excited to explore together, share stories, or enjoy a relaxed evening. Let’s create unforgettable memories!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I’m on Couchsurfing because I believe the best way to experience a new place is through its people. It’s not just about visiting landmarks; it’s about connecting with locals, sharing stories, and learning about different cultures firsthand. I love the idea of exchanging experiences, creating memories together, and building meaningful connections with people from all over the world. For me, Couchsurfing is a way to make travel more personal, authentic, and unforgettable.

Music, Movies, and Books
I’m a big fan of Pixar and Disney movies, and The Greatest Showman holds a special place in my heart. When it comes to series, I love Friends, How I Met Your Mother, Game of Thrones, Star Wars, and Harry Potter.
For anime, I’m all in! Favorites include One Piece, Oshi no Ko, Attack on Titan, My Hero Academia, Angel Beats, and so many others—it’s hard to pick just a few!
My music taste is pretty eclectic. I vibe with bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day, Fall Out Boy, Panic! at the Disco, System of a Down, and Paramore. I also love pop and electronic artists like Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga, Martin Garrix, Avicii, Oliver Heldens, Tame Impala, Gorillaz, and Imagine Dragons.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
One of my most memorable adventures was a 30-day solo journey across Japan, visiting 15 different cities, which taught me just how rewarding the world can be for those who dive in fearlessly.
Teach, Learn, Share
I’m happy to teach and share my knowledge about Japanese culture, including traditional arts like Shodo (calligraphy), Chado (tea ceremony), and music (shamisen and shakuhachi). I can also help with languages like English and Portuguese, as well as anything related to Brazil, from its culture to hidden travel tips.
Professionally, I can share insights into UX design, Computer Science, and Graphic Design. Whether it’s brainstorming creative ideas, teaching basic concepts, or diving into a tech discussion, I’m always ready to collaborate and exchange knowledge.
At the same time, I’m eager to learn from others! Whether it’s about your culture, a new skill, or just a different perspective, I’m all in for meaningful exchanges.
What I Can Share with Hosts
As a guest, I’m always willing to help with anything that’s needed. I’m not afraid to get my hands dirty, whether it’s helping with chores or contributing in any way possible. I’m always ready to be part of something special!
I’m polite, clean, and respectful. I really enjoy good conversations and am up for just about anything, but I also value and respect personal space when needed.
