About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Find something unique to do in every place visited, make friends wherever I go

ABOUT ME

Traveler looking for ways to offset my work habits with great vacation ideas... Too many trip ideas to mention, but with each place comes more ideas, more possibilities, great food, and new faces.

PHILOSOPHY

The phrase I live by: Where to next? And who will meet me there or join me? ;)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Best CS experiences so far: September 2012 -- I posted 2 events in 2012 while visiting Barcelona -- La Merce festival, where 8 others managed to find me and we checked out the parades & festivities at night... And a second event, where 4 other CS'ers joined me for a 13-tapas dinner meal at a popular restaurant. Got to meet wonderful new friends exploring the city at night, and over a delicious meal...Who says traveling alone has to be boring? ;)

Interests

Movies, Books, Picnics, Cooking, Singing, finding something special in each place visited (examples: paragliding in Lima, figuring out how to get to Monet's house and gardens in Giverny with limited French, running through narrow alleys at night to get to an opera performance the first night in Venice, finding JM Barrie's house in pouring rain in Dundee. Seeing Harry Potter & the Cursed child in London, visiting Japan & finding the Shiro-hige cream puff factory(hidden in the neighborhood) for Totoro shaped cream puffs. Hiking Miyajima Island in the rain, then walking up to the base of the large red torii(gate) in the bay during low tide... )

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Being in Munich and, by chance saw a poster of my favorite American author in the department store, all in German (which I couldn't read) with that day's date ...Asked around and found she had a book release party in the evening somewhat nearby. Figured out how to get to the event site (after nearly getting lost & asking 5 strangers for help), and was able to gain entrance, talk briefly and get a photo with her at the end of the night. (This was amazing to me at the time -- I don't know any German, was without any electronic gadgets/cell phones and yet came upon that poster and found my way to the venue, all manually). Now her books are being brought to a television series, 9 years later(!). The unique things one finds on one's travels... ;)

Teach, Learn, Share

I want to learn to cook foods from every part of the world. Try as many local dishes as possible. Get to know as many new friends as I can while visiting places for the first time (and subsequent times). Learn from others, share knowledge, share stories.
