About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Just moved. New areas to explore! Upcoming trips this year include Alaska, California, and Peru.
ABOUT ME
I'm chubby, with long curly brown hair and brown eyes. I love traveling, history, architecture, learning languages, and meeting people. I recently graduated, and am working as a civil transportation engineer in Puyallup, WA- a nice change after five winters at -40 in Fairbanks and three years of rain in Juneau, AK. At home, I enjoy fishing, hunting, reading, gardening, RPGs and other gaming, and making a mess (other people call it art, but it really is more like making a mess) in ceramics and glass, and working with a laser cutter and 3D printer.
PHILOSOPHY
Fav Quotes (they say it better than I ever could):
"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, and lastly die gallantly. Specialization is for insects." -Robert Heinlein
"He fears too much, his desserts too small, who will not put it to the touch, to win or lose it all – Montrose's Toast
“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.” - Mark Twain
"Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go." -Emerson
"To laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived - that is to have succeeded." - Ralph Waldo Emerson
"We recognize that we cannot survive on meditation, poems, and sunsets. We are restless. We have an irresistible urge to dip our hands into the stuff of the earth and do something with it." -Samuel Florman
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've hosted in Alaska, and have recently moved and hoped to host again soon. I also hope to couch surf and meet locals as I spend some time traveling. I couchsurfed a bit in England, and met up for some cool local guided tours.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've had people visit, and took one person halibut fishing I met through couch surfers. I've couch surfed once so far, in York, England, and it was a great experience! I also got some local guided "tours".
Interests
Fishing, hunting, books (sci fi and history mostly), sustainable agriculture and development, religion, broom ball, hockey, travel, languages, classic movies, bowling, history, architecture, etc. I'm currently working on learning Polish (I'm progressing pretty well and can get through small talk in it).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Walked 1200 miles with two friends! Stood in Cathedral Square in Santiago de Compostela on St James Day, Marienplatz in Munchen during Oktoberfest, and Trafalgar Square in London on New Years Day! Jumped off a jump tower! Drove in a blizzard! Skated on the Yukon! Brushed a musk ox! Panned for gold! Watched the Aurora dance north of the arctic circle! Carved an ice sculpture! Gone swimming with an elephant! Swim with bioluminescent plankton!
Forget one amazing thing- I'm going for an amazing life.
Teach, Learn, Share
Hunting, trapping, or fishing in Alaska? I can probably share some tips. I'd love to improve my Arabic or Polish, and I always enjoy learning about stained glass, history, religion, or ceramics.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I'm a lively and energetic guest. If you take the time to show me the sights wherever I'm at, I'll be happy to cover those costs. If we share a meal, I'm a great cook. Warn me ahead of time, and I may be able to bring venison or salmon ( I have a glut of salmon this year, so feel free to ask) to share or as a gift for hosting.
