About Me

I am an Oregonian that returned to my hometown after many years of school, traveling, and general mischief. I still try and get out and travel and adventure as often as possible, but I am enjoying the whole "having a home" thing at the moment and look forward to sharing it with travelers. I am fairly low key these days, but still have a bit of a wild streak in me. I'm a pretty easy going guy. If you wanna go out on hike, I can show you around. If you want to get a few drinks, I am game. Or, if you want to rest and be by yourself, I can respect that too. My home is a friendly little waystation and I hope you think so too.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am on couchsurfing because I think it is a wonderful thing to give a weary traveler a safe place to rest, a shower, and some food. I have been saved a few times by the kindness of strangers and I feel joyfully obligated to pay it forward. I also like the idea of making friends the world over who would (hopefully) host me in the future.

Interests

My interests span a wide array of topics, which has typically allowed me to be able to connect/identify with most everybody I have met. I love music of all varieties and am always eager to hear new groups and share mine with others.

I read as if it were my job and love talking about books with other people. I somehow, despite an attempt at culling my library, have found myself lugging around about ten books on my travels and have read most of them already. Similarly, I enjoy writing, primarily anecdotes and short stories, but dabble in many genres.

I also enjoy cooking, gardening, farming, hiking, identifying plants, building things, theology, anthropology, history, sociology, natural sciences, animals, physics, movies, cartoons, just to name some of my favorites.

Music, Movies, and Books

Oh my, I will try to keep this short.

Books:
Anything by Neil Gaiman
Anything by Christopher Moore
Anything by Alexander Pushkin
Anything by Marjane Satrapi
Siddartha, The Golden Compass series, The Alchemist, Skinny Legs and All, The Night Circus, The Magicians, Song of Ice and Fire, The Lone Ranger and Tanto Fistfight in Heaven... this is what I conjured into my head in a few seconds. I have read thousands of books, so it is difficult to remember all of them on command. I tend to lean towards fantasy and history, but most genres are fair game.

Music:
I tend to gravitate towards underground hip-hop, northwest indie, and certain veins of electronic music but I like most genres. I simply cannot tolerate reggae and punk, however.

Movies:
Wes Anderson, Christopher Nolan, Guillermo Del Toro, Joss Whedon, Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, are my favorite directors as of now. My movies category is similar to my books, I have seen thousands and love to talk about them.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am kind of a "did you know..." guy, so prepare to hear some mildly interesting facts that have no value or bearing on your life whatsoever. Oh, I can also do a little bike repair, so that might be handy.

Countries I’ve Visited

Bahamas, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico
