About Me

Hi! My name is Trevor and I am currently devoting all my time and life to travelling to every state in the US, writing a book about homelessness in the country.
Before embarking on my crazy solo life-redefining adventure, I graduated with a Bachelor's in Psychology from UMass Amherst, putting myself through college by working two jobs at a time. While working these two barely-above-minimum-wage jobs that had nothing to do with my education, I saved my money and thought hard about what I wanted to do.
I've always wanted to travel more, as I'd spent the majority of my life in Massachusetts. I wanted to be a writer, an author, ever since I was young. I still wanted to help people if I could. So taking all of these I came up with my idea for the project I'm currently on! I gave my notices, stored what I wouldn't need on the road, and then packed my little PT Cruiser and starting visiting states I'd never been to before.
My planned circuit involves first heading south along the east coast, then moving west to California, heading north to Washington and then back east all the way back to the east coast, visiting every state, most major cities, and some touristy-sights along the way.
I also have a great curiosity for new experiences and cuisines and I am thrilled to see what I can find throughout the states.
As for personal interests outside of these, I'm a pretty big gaming, comic, and movie nerd, primarily fantasy. I love reading and podcasts, stand-up comedy, and my music taste skews more to folk, indie-rock, and pop. I've currently got St. Vincent and Sia's Christmas album on repeat.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've always been aware of Couchsurfing, back when I started putting together my project as something I could possibly get involved with. To be honest, I felt guilty at imposing on others in my travels. I've been attempting to be as self-sufficient as possible. However, with colder weather, it is becoming more difficult to camp either in my tent or my car and I can't afford to stay in motels every night. So I thought I would give this a try. I also believe it could be very helpful to have the help of a local to give me tips on what to see and do while in the area.

Music, Movies, and Books

The lists are really too long, so I'll put what I'm currently excited about.
Music: I already talked about, I unashamedly enjoy Christmas music and Sia's enthusiastic and original album is a delight.
Movies: I am pretty pumped for the new Star Wars movie coming out soon.
Books: I'm currently making my way through Words of Radiance: Stormlight Archive Book Two by Brandon Sanderson, some thrilling high fantasy series I'm hooked on (and the third book in the series JUST came out!)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Does dropping my entire life and striking out on my own in a tiny car across the nation to write my first book count? Probably not on this site, that's probably every other story. Hmm.
In New Jersey I helped rescue an abandoned dog; she ran in front of my car as I was heading to a hiking spot. I didn't hit her. I parked after she went to the trails, and with the help of some other hikers, we managed to coax her into eating some food we put together and get a leash on her and bring her to the nearest shelter.
I still wish I could have taken her with me, but with all of the non-pet friendly places, I didn't want her to regularly spend hours in my car, possibly in the cold while I worked.
I've since learned that she did find a home, they named her Marla.

Teach, Learn, Share

I would love to learn more about the area, specifically great sights and hiking spots. I'd also love to experience local flavours. Also, I've been doing a thing where I pick up a few books wherever I go, read them, and then usually trade them in for others in a used bookstore. But if I can start Couchsurfing, I would love to be able to trade books with hosts wherever I travel.

What I Can Share with Hosts

As far as sharable skills, I'm a great copy editor as well as a literary peer reviewer. I'm tall at 6' and fairly strong and would gladly help with any chores, tasks, or projects.
With my car, I can help with those as well.
