HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I am being asked by the travelers around the world, how to get in Tibet, I am telling them the truth about Tibet tourism. Like Tibet Travel Permits and some other permits which travelers need while trvaling in Tibet. I used to help lots of lowbudge travelers and bagpackers, especially students!!
But some travel still think that they can travel to Tibet without Travel permits, hence start undermining my profile, saying that i am telling the lies. I hope they will see difference in the past and present situation of travelers while traveling in Tibet. SO that they will come to know whether i am telling lie or not! it's bad news for those travelers who are looking for relaiable information about Tibet tour.

HERE I AM GIVING YOU THE BASIC KNOWLEDGE ABOUT HOW TO TRAVEL TO TIBET!
1) ABOUT VISA and PERMITS INFORMATIONS:
Visas and Travel Permits Tibet is offical a province of China so you need a Chinese visa to enter China and Tibet. (Officially you also need a Tibet entry permit) If you are coming to Tibet through mainland China, you need to apply for your Chinese tourist visa before you arrive. Contact your local nearest Chinese consulate for visa application details. NOTE: When you fill in your application form it is recommended that you do not mention Tibet as some consulates have unclear policy regarding travel to Tibet. Just put down Beijing or Chengdu as your itinerary and write down the hotel you will be staying at as your contact. IMPORTANT: If you are planning to enter Tibet from Kathmandu DO NOT get your Chinese visa in advance. The Chinese visa is issued as a group visa in Kathmandu and is arranged by Our friend there.
2)IS IT OK IF I DO hITCH-HIKE FROM NEPAL OR CHINA TO TIBTE? WITHOUT GUIDE AND TIBET TRAVEL PERMITS?
lots of travelers did this many years ago, at that time, it was not as restricted as now.But now things has been changed completely. That's reason why i used the Term "you have no other options", if you take flight from any city China to Tibet, you will be checked at the airport whether you have permits with you or not, and they will do the same thing at the train station. If they faild to check you at the train station , but you will be checkt at hotel or guest house in Tibet. Hence it's first and for most priority to have Tibet travel permit. Note: over land from Xiangri-la to Tibet has been closed since last year!
3) WHAT ARE THE AVAIABLE TRANSPORTATION TO TIBET?
Getting to Tibet For better or worse, Tibet is not particularly close to anywhere. There are two standard entry points into Tibet: from Nepal, and from mainland China. IF YOU NEED HELP, OF COURSE We can arrange for transit from either place, either by flight or overland, but we cannot book international flights. You must make your own international flight arrangements, however we can look after all logistics once you arrive in either Nepal or China. (We do book the Kathmandu - Lhasa flight). From China we can arrange for transfers through Beijing, Chengdu, Shanghai, Kunming, and a number of other cities. THERE are trains from lots of cities in China connects Tibet,
Beijing to Tibet. Shanghai to Tibet.
Xian to Tibet. Guangzhou to Tibet.
Xining to Tibet. Chengdu to Tibet.
shangxi to Tibet. etc. Main important thing is that, it's really difficult to get the train ticket, the train tickets are only issued 10days in advance. Hence you need to alart yourself with date of selling the train tickets.
If you are in Nepal you can either take international flight or over land by car, but of course you have to come with group!
4)CAN I TRAVEL INDEPENDENTLY ONCE I AM IN TIBET?
Independent travel is currently not allowed in Tibet. This situation may change in the near future but at this stage only groups fully booked in advance (with the correct permits) are allowed into Tibet. You are allowed to visit those places which has been mentioned in your itinerary and permits, a part from that, you are not allowed to visit whever you like!
5) CAN I TAEK PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION WHILE TRAVELING IN TIBET?
YOU CAN take public bus and taxi in the city, like lhasa or Shigatse. But you are not allowed to take public transportation out of city. Besides you are not allowed to bus to the Nepal border or some other borders in Kailash.you will have to take booked car with you throughout your trip.
6)BOOKED CAR AND GUIDE ARE NECESSARY IN TIBET, OR CAN I TRAVEL WITHOUT GUIDE?
IT'S compulsory ruels and regulation given by the governement of CHINA saying that you will have to have book car of your own and guide, it's not like other provinces in China. so therefore, booked car, guide and Tibet travel permits are necessary to have while traveling in Tibet.Guide will be accompanying you throughout your trip in Tibet. yes few years ago, you have option whether you need the guide or not. But now you have to have guide with you in Tibet.
7) WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO HAVE TIBET TRAVEL PERMITS AND HOW CAN I GET IT?
ONCE you got the Chinese visa in your home country. you need to send me or other travel company the COPY OF YOUR PASSPORT and MAIN PAGE OF YOUR CHINESE VISA. send it by scanning it or take a clear picture of it.
Secondly: you need to tell us or other travel company where you will make final departure to Tibet from China. Give us or them clear name guest house or hotel in China where you are going to stay, so that we or they will post the Tibet Travel permits to there. Usuaally it take about 7working days. Hence you need to confirmed the booked tour in advance. Generally LAST MINUTE BOOKING ALWAYS NOT WORKING AT ALL! ESPECIALLY during the peak season in Tibet.
8)I AM TRAVELING ALONE, HOW CAN I MAKE EXPENSES CHEAP FOR TIBET TRIP?
FIRST THING IS, you need to look for more friend to join you or you can join some other group who are going to visit Tibet in same month or same date! so that you can share all the expenses with them.
secondly: tell the travel company that you can manage your own food, entry ticket and accommodation by yourself! About food in lhasa, you can have some street food, like Tibet noodles, fried rice etc, which cost about 12yuan. while travling out of Tibet, you can take some food with you. in this way you will be able to save some amount of money! you can stay at international youth hostel in lhasa. and guest house in Shigatse. Please note that : you can only stay at those hotel or guest which has authorization from the government, which are relatively cheaper than other hotels!
9) CAN I JOIN A GROUP ONCE I AM IN LHASA?
The best option is to join the group out of Tibet, and come to Tibet together, if you want to join a group in Tibet, your itinerary and theirs may not be the same, besides they may not be agree with you. So therefore , it's awalys better to join a group out of Tibet.

SOME MORE ANSWERS TO THE YOUR QUESTIONS:
10) WHAT ARE THE MAJOR PLACES WHERE TOURISTS LIKE TO VISIT IN TIBET?
Lhasa, Tsedang, Gyantse, Shigatse, Tingri, Mt everest base camp and Dam etc are the most popular places in Tibet both for Normal or trekking tour in Tibet. for expedition places: the Mt.Everest, Mt. Kailish and the Gaden and samye area are the most exciting and accessible places for trekking and expedition tour.
11) IS IT POSSIBLE TO EXTEND MY VISIT IN TIBET IF MY PERMIT EXPIRES?
Yes, it is possible to extend if you only intend to overstay one or two days in Lhasa not somewhere else. And you must tell your plan to your agent in advance, and they know how to help for you. It will make Extension more difficult if you tell them at LAST DAY OF YOUR TRIP.
12) WHICH GUIDES IS BETTER TIBETAN BACKGROUND OR CHINESE BACKGROUND?
Most of our clients suggest that they prefer to have local Tibetan guide, just because their culture, religion and tradition are sunk into their blood and tissue. It's not like other guides who learn our culture through TV..books...etc. Hence it will be better for you all to have a Tibetan guide while traveling in Tibet.
We can arrange the guide according to your instruction. Usually the Tibetan guide will be more fimiliar with their hometown than that of Chinese.
13)HOW MUCH IS A TIBET TRAVEL PERMIT? CAN GET IT WITHOUT BOOKING THE TOUR THROUGH TRAVEL COMPANY?
Please note that we never just SELL a permit as this is illegal. We only help you obtain a permit from the Tibet Tourism Bureau. The cost for a permit includes both the charge by the government and the service fees by our travel agency. The cost will be alculated into the quote of the whole tour package including tour guide and other items.HENCE , you won't get the permit without booking the tour!
