About Me

My name is Tunc, and I consider myself a learner and a travel enthusiast. I am a student at Harvard University and I study philosophy and history. I spend most of my time reading, meditating, hiking, and always listening to good music. I enjoy thoughtful conversations and learning from others’ experiences. I am grateful that I was able to see almost all of Europe, Japan, US, Turkey, and Thailand.

PHILOSOPHY:
I try to cherish my time, knowing that my life is essentially meaningless in an absurd universe. I try my best to get over my existential angst by learning and having memorable experiences. I believe in the power of connections and memories. Different people subtly change each other in ways unimaginable.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

to become a slow traveler who has the time to experience places better than tourists do. I am also planning on shooting picturesque videos and photos for later use in my documentaries and short movies. Most importantly, I enjoy meeting new people and listening to their stories.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books:
It is very hard to come up with a list of favorite books, but I'll try my best:
Conversation in the Cathedral / Mario Vargas Llosa, Sons and Lovers / D. H. Lawrence, Autobiography of Red / Anne Carson, Death of Virgil / Hermann Broch, The Baphomet / Pierre Klossowski, The Lime Works / Thomas Bernhard, The Man Without Qualities / Robert Musil, Crime and Punishment / Dostoevski

Music:
I spend a couple of hours every day just listening to music, so this will be a rather limited list of the bands and artists I like:
A Silver Mt. Zion, Radiohead, Boards of Canada, The Microphones, Joanna Newsom, Blonde Redhead, Caribou, Beach House, Swans, David Bowie, King Crimson, Four Tet, Björk, Xiu Xiu, Run the Jewels, Bjork, Kanye West, Nicolas Jaar, DJ Koze, Aphex Twin.

My favorite classical pieces:

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

All selfless acts are equally amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach:
I can also talk about the places I visited. I am quite knowledgeable about continental philosophy, politics, particularly US politics but also international relations, history, economics. I can also talk about cultural differences.

Learn:
I am open to anything, and I basically spend my entire day learning about new stuff by reading, listening to podcasts etc. I'd appreciate any new information, particularly about the different ways of being, i.e. phenomenological experiences, different people have.

Share:
I think that we could share a lot actually. I consider myself cultured and I think I possess a great amount of general knowledge. We could talk about philosophy, biology, computer science, history, economics, psychology. We could recommend each other books. movies, etc.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can bring good food, good wine, good beer. I can make nice Meditteranean salads. I will do my best to share whatever I have.

Countries I’ve Visited
