Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
to travel the world, to meet nice and interesting people, and share what I have with others
ABOUT ME
I grew up in Boston and New York, went to Woodstock at the age of 15, went to college in Maine, spent my junior year studying Shakespeare at Oxford, and went on to the University of Chicago to get a Ph.D. in English. After finishing my course work, I was offered a job as a dramaturg, and did that for 18 years at two theaters in Chicago. Now I'm chairing a small theater department at a college near Chicago.
PHILOSOPHY
nothing is more important than the meaningful human connections that one makes while on the earth
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I want to welcome people from all over the world to my home near Chicago, and hope to visit people as well in many countries across the world.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
As a student, I stayed for five days in George Whitman's Shakespeare and Company bookstore in Paris, and had a wonderful time. His generosity has inspired me to welcome travelers into my own home.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I saw Jimi Hendrix perform "The Star Spangled Banner" at Woodstock in August of 1969. Here's a picture I took of that!
