About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Swing a Little More on the Devil's Dance Floor

ABOUT ME

I'm an active 23 y/o, studying to be a high school social studies teacher. I attend the College of Wooster, in Wooster Ohio, where I'm majoring in History with a minor in Education. My junior year I studied abroad at the University of Glasgow in the UK. I love to dance, my normal styles being contra, swing, blues, and Argentine tango. I've been doing contra (New England style folk dancing) since I was a small child, tango for the past six years, swing for the past four years, and blues for only the last year. I also know a little (and enjoy) salsa, merengue, Texas two-step, and zydeco. If I visit your town I'll be looking for places to dance.I currently work at a fantastic little restaurant called CaféAdam, waiting and bussing. I also do landscaping work and other odd jobs. Both types of work require large amounts of both physical and mental energy, a rewarding combination.I like exploring and meeting new people!

PHILOSOPHY

Gardens are about life. Mulch creates dead spots. Therefore, there should be very little mulch in a garden. Yes, sometimes, as with a new bush, it may be necessary until that bush takes hold, but never a permanent fixture.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Right now I am renting a room in my parents' house, as I work and save up to finish my degree, then hopefully move abroad, so I unfortunately do not have a couch to offer. I do help my folks host - show people the town, etc. Most of my contribution is a surfer at the moment though, and in spreading word of the project to people who I think would be interested (and good community members).
You can, however, surf with mis padres. They hosted me for 22+ years and did a damn fine job! http://www.couchsurfing.org/people/empulse/

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I once had a week-long stay with a family in Peten, Guatemala, and it was one of the most enriching experiences of my life. I also have found couches and tents at various folk festivals, that kept me out of the cold and the rain.

My first surfing using the website was to France for a few days, to visit a friend studying in Paris. It was fantastic. My host was very welcoming, told us stories about the city and the catacombs, and I had a wonderful time.

I also surfed for a few days in Dublin. My host, the household, two other surfers, and his neighbors had a dinner party one night, and it was a blast cooking and eating together.

My parents have hosted many times while I've been home, so I've been able to experience that side of it as well. Everyone has been wonderful.

Interests

Dancing, theatre, reading, exploring, learning, teaching . . . Anything really, at least once. These days I'm especially into dancing, and am learning blues and various forms of swing. I also love languages, and plan to start learning another after I graduate. (Uni takes an intense amount of time.)

How can I choose?

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have been in a theatre packed to the gills (Someone on my lap, someone on *their* lap, someone on the floor in front of us) with my friends, cheering, crying, and laughing our hearts out for each other, as we performed Shakespeare for each other. Several times.

(If you're wondering, there once actually was a fire alarm. We were all able to exit in a timely fashion.)

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach some dancing, some history, English, some Spanish, I can teach some cooking, some sewing, knitting... and I love to teach!

I'm always interested in learning more language, whatever language you speak.
