About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To travel and meet people. For 30 years I've done this, and will continue to do so.

ABOUT ME

I'm a big traveler with lots of experience. I visited Europe more than 25 times, China and Thailand 5 times, Northern Africa 3 times, South America 4 times, New Zealand, and Australia. I have written 4 eBook, still unpublished (any help on this will be greatly appreciated) and started my own travel website (www.uncle-dans-travel-secrets.com). All this web stuff takes a lot of time but is a lot of fun.
I Travel for fun, work and to visit friends and relatives abroad. It's a good life.

PHILOSOPHY

Travel opens one to more that truth, it opens one to the best in life. To peace on earth and the realization that friendship is a stronger force in the world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I visited a Couchsurfing party in Sunnyvale, CA a few months back and loved it. I felt these where my kind of people. I'm a strong volunteer; I was a Red Cross Disaster Response Supervisor for 8 years. I would love to repeat this type of commitment for the CS project.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I did a lot of CouchSurfing before CouchSurfing became a thing in itself. I camped in ditches and stayed in home of people I met throughout Europe, US, and Africa during the 70's, 80's and 90's. Less in after the millennium, mostly due to the fact I travel with a mighty expense account with my business. I wanted to return to my roots and CouchSurfing.

Interests

I love to explore, really explore. My German friend says I've seen more of Germany than they have. Ditto my South American friends.
I love local museums, sports events and people. I always preach, "Ask the locals!" They know what's best. I like just to walk, to see what I will see. I like to a trip and then forget my plans and travel by just listening to the people I meet.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love books, especially travel books. I listen to audio books of ALL sorts in my car on my way to and from work as well as other diving times. Great time well spent. Ditto music.

Movie, travel and I go way back.
On my website I say:
I watch "Star Wars" then Monty Python's "Life of Brian," and I'm off to Tunisia where they were both filmed.

I get taken with "The French Lieutenant's Woman," and I'm hiking the seaside cliffs near Lime Regis, in southern England.

I see the Indiana Jones movie "Raiders of the Lost Ark," and I'm at the pyramids of Egypt.

I view Michael Palin's travel series "Pole to Pole," and I'm climbing the Torre Del Paine Mountains in Chili.

I rent "Crocodile Dundee," and I'm marching through the Australia's outback.

I watch "Lord of the Rings," and I'm sailing through the air in Queensland, New Zealand.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Wow, this is a tough one.

The most amazing I think I saw was, seeing Franco, the dictator of Spain, who was propped up in the back of a giant Mercedes Benz limo during an impromptu, but very quick military parade in 1973, just before his death. It was supposed to be a show of strength for his mighty regime, but it ended up showing him as the very aged and feeble leader that he was…

Teach, Learn, Share

Again I can't emphasis this more: Ask the Locals.

Any trick or method or interest that starts a conversation with a local is the thing to do. You instantly get the best of what a trip or location has to offer.
