About Me

I grew up in a small town half way between Detroit and Chicago but have been in Seattle for 20 years. I am a lifelong student of music, arts, movement, cultures and languages. I am passionate about social justice and preservation of humans and nature over corporations & greed. In the past I have taught self defense and have done anti-violence education through the organization Home Alive.

Professionally I am a singer and singing teacher. My primary focus as a singer in more recent years has been music from the Balkan region of Eastern Europe and surrounding areas. I also love to sing American traditional music and some original songs. I perform regularly in a few Seattle bands. My parallel career to music is working as a yoga teacher.

My favorite hobby is studying languages. I love to travel and practice language skills with native speakers whenever possible. I enjoy the growth achieved by getting out of my comfort zone and learning news ways of communicating and perceiving life through the lens of other cultures and traditions. I am open minded toward cultures that are different from mine and constantly growing and evolving my world view.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

1.) I want to meet local people and make friends of all ages in the places I travel. Hostels are good for meeting other travelers but not so much locals.

2.) Affordability. I don't make a whole lot of money but have intense wanderlust. Couch surfing makes travel more accessible.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was 23 I bought a one way ticket to India. I went there alone and stayed for 8 months deeply immersed in yoga study and classical hindustani singing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to teach and share music. I offer singing lessons and a have a large repertoire of folk music from all over the world. I am a bit of a "song-capitalist" and love to learn traditional music (or pop or whatever, as long as it's good) in many languages.

I also love to teach/practice yoga and meditation with others.

I'd love to try and teach English or Spanish.

I'm a good hiking/biking buddy.
