————————————————————————

I was born in Taiwan, went to an international school in Shanghai, got my Bachelor degree at Michigan State University, and now working in Tokyo as a UI designer and a freelance designer. I love traveling, portrait photography (www.vickiecjuan.com), getting to know people, coffee shop hopping, working out and chilling with friends.

I love traveling solo because it forces me to get out of my comfort zone and gives me more opportunity to connect with others. I like getting to know people, sharing ideas and beliefs. I especially enjoy hearing about people's passion. In the past few years, I've visited a few places in the States, the UK and Japan.

Some of the places I've been to

US: New York, Boston, Vegas, Grand Canyon, LA, Santa Monica, Carlsbad, San Diego, Newport Beach, Sleeping Bear Dune, Traverse City, Mackinac Island, Smokey Mountains, Seattle, Portland, Klamath Falls, Bay Area, Yosemite, Monterey, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Fullerton, San Diego, Denver, South Carolina, Virginia, DC, Florida
Japan: Kyoto, Tokyo, Kanagawa, Sapporo, Ibaraki, Okinawa, Yamanashi, Osaka, Himeji, Hiroshima, Karuizawa, Kobe, Kagoshima
UK: London, Edinburgh, York, Manchester, Bath, Brighton
China: Shanghai, Harbin, Beijing, Tianjing, Kunming, Suzhou, Xiamen, Zhejiang

...tbc :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love people. I love stories.
For me, Couchsurfing is more than just getting to know the culture. I believe that people are so much more than where they come from and where they live. Being able to witness and be a part of someone's journey is precious.

I started using Couchsuring in 2015 when I solo backpacked. It was truly the highlight of my trip. CS is a neat way to meet people and to be a part of each others' lives. I've learned so much more about myself as I learn about other people. Grateful to all the hosts that I've gotten to stayed with and the wonderful guests I've gotten to host.

Interests

Traveling-
I travelled a lot before I left the States in 2015. I also did my first 1-month solo backpacking in the States after I graduated from my university. That's also when I started doing couch surfing. I got to meet so many awesome, creative, talented people that I'd have never met if I didn't use Couchsurfing. Most of the time the greatest memories are made in the most unlikely of places with the most unexpected people. and the best destinations are often the ones unplanned :)

Photography-
I picked up photography about a year ago. I mainly do food photography and portraits. One thing I love the most about food photography is the layer and the texture I can add to it! It's fun for me to try to come up with new composition and healthy recipe as well!

Weight train-
I workout to keep my body strong. I got into weight training about 2 years ago. I've had a personal trainer for over a year and now just working out on my own.

Music, Movies, and Books

book1: 101 questions to ask before you get engaged.
I highly recommend people to read this book even for single people. This book is literally what it says it is- 101 questions. I actually read this with one of my best friends haha. We would pick a few questions and process things together. It's a good book to help you get to know yourself and others.

book 2: the Bible
I love Jesus. I love reading His Word!

book 3: 100 things you need to know as a designer
Easy read on UI design. Would recommend this book to anyone interested in UI design.

book 4: Don't make me think by Steve Krug.
UI/UX Design. Easy read. Good stuff.

Movies: I love Disney movies. I love the ones that I watched when I was little. Fun fact tho, i don't really enjoy Disneyland :P Not really a fan of amusement parks. Nature is my best friend!
