I'm using Couchsurfing because I'm interested in having authentic experiences with local people. Hostels are great places but to chill with somebody in their home is awesome.

One Amazing Thing I've Done
Walking over 1,600km on the Camino de Santiago through France and Spain. Amazing countryside, food, wine and culture. And of course I made awesome friends.
