Overview
About Me
I'm probably not as insanely positive as most other people on here, but a friend of mine once said I had a "bubbly" personality. Whatever that means. I am a writer, I enjoy creating interesting experiences for other people and if you come for a visit and you're brave, I'll be happy to take you to the catacombs in my hometown. When I travel, I visit cozy cluttered cafés with bookshelves on the walls, where I like to read, sing and have profound conversations about literature, music and the comedy of human existence. I am easily impressed by a pretty view point or an aesthetically ruined building. I dress in dark colors and I like melancholic music, books and films. My motto is: "Be strong in order to be useful."
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
It used to be that I had no money, but over time I started to like people.
Interests
Someone once said that everything is quite interesting if you go into it deeply enough. I agree with that. Gardening, fencing, cryptozoology, you name it. Maybe except football.
Okay, but my interests compacted into a cube:
- reading / writing (I love dreamy, sensitive, melancholic literature; I write mostly short stories and music reviews; leave me in an old book shop and I'm taken care of for hours)
- singing / music (I was a singer in a couple of bands and a choir, but these days I mostly nerd over niche music)
- languages (I attempted to learn a dozen languages at various points, but ultimately barely speak one)
- urban exploration (I really like to learn about the history of once glorious places and explore underground catacombs or rooftops)
- sports (I grew up doing parkour; I still like general purpose movement like hiking, climbing, swimming etc.)
- cars (from design, technological and motorsport standpoint; I often say I like cars, but not necessarily the people who drive them)
- writing
- literature
- singing
- cars
- music
- languages
- science
- parkour
- climbing
- urbex
Music, Movies, and Books
When it comes to music, I like drama, tension and melancholy. The genre isn't as important. But to give you an idea, my most revered musician is Nick Cave of the Bad Seeds fame, I love the spacey, dark beats of early dubstep and the pop music of the 00's is my guilty pleasure. If you want to get me to dance, then balkan or gypsy music is your best bet.
Asking me about my favorite movie is like asking me to tell a joke. I immediately forget all the jokes I know. But I guess my favorite movies overlap with my favorite music - they're dreamy, mysterious and audiovisually beautiful. Think David Lynch, Jim Jarmusch, Paolo Sorrentino.
A good book should offer an insight into the human condition and not take itself too seriously. Orhan Pamuk, Milan Kundera, Gabriel García Marquéz come to mind.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Won a singing competition, even though I forgot the lyrics like three times.
