About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Living in my car cause I hate sitting still

ABOUT ME

Hey, my name's Ian. Me and the corporate world are in the middle of a trial separation due to philosophical differences and I've chosen to spend my new found freedom living in my car and exploring the US till I find a way to make enough money to go somewhere else. I love moving around and discovering new things but every so often being all by yourself in the woods can get a little lonely. So I'm hoping to make some friends and have some adventures all over the place, I wouldn't be opposed to a travel partner for some bits of the journey to share in things like gas money either.

At the time of writing this I'm a 26 year old guy who just left a career in therapy to pursue something else, though I have no idea yet what that might be. I have traveled a lot in Asia, mostly China, but also Lao, Thailand, Hong Kong and a little bit of Australia. I love being on the road, especially love meeting new people, especially people who are way different from me.

I write a blog about my adventures only a few posts about this new road trip, but a lot of old posts about China as well.

PHILOSOPHY

I personally believe that people are good at their deepest point, but that we let fear control us, and it makes us hurt ourselves and others. For me traveling is a way to confront fear and make myself a stronger and more compassionate person.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've couch surfed in Hong Kong and Australia and had fantastic experiences in both places. I have never stayed in one place long enough to own a couch though.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I Stayed with an English woman in Hong Kong, and an American expat in Australia. Both were really fantastic experiences with really cool people.

Interests

I'm one of them deep thinkin types. I love philosophy, and writing. i also have a soft spot in my heart for fishing, martial arts, and obviously, traveling. I just started painting which is the first time I've ever been interested in visual art at all but am having a ton of fun with it.

Music, Movies, and Books

The Little Prince, Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy, The Good Earth, A Thousand Splendid Suns, On the Road, Dharma Bums,

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was 19 I left home for the first time to travel alone in China. I spend 10 months there and it was the single most significant period in my life.

When I was 25 I went to Asia again with a friend and wandered all over the place. I can't stand the thought of trying to cram that whole experience into a little box like this so lets just say it was unbelievable.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you to cook, I can teach kungfu or tai chi, I can teach you English, or help you with writing. I'm always up for learning new things of any kind really, if you know how to paint though I'd love to learn just some basic techniques

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, China, Laos, Thailand

Countries I’ve Lived In

China, United States
