About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To be able to tell my children "Kids, university is the greatest time of your life!"

ABOUT ME

Ginger geek! Red hair and a geeky tshirt is what makes me me!

I don't go up and talk to strangers in a bar, but I will at a private party. I start with with yes or no answers, but after five minutes I am talking in chapters. I prefer to listen than to speak, so you might have to pull on my tongue - and please - do! I like sarcasm, directness (I am not a mind-reader). I am neither messy nor orderly: things should never be in your way, but the ones you use often should not be stowed away. I eat and drink everything - I love meat, but I don't have to eat it everyday. I am more of a dreamer than a doer, but I do get the important things done, albeit quite close to he deadline (I procrastinate a lot). I plan for the worst and hope for the best, which means I am constantly lugging a big bag around, and in it an umbrella, (swiss) pocket knife, torch... I am the guy you want to be around when the zombie apocalypse comes :D I am always ready to help others, and expect nothing in return; it just makes me happy to see you smile :) I love a good discussion on any (substantial) subject - exempt are music theory, sports and celeb gossip. I have a good sense of direction, so you don't have to worry I'll get lost on my way to the bathroom. My mind is chaotic at times, but my words are carefully chosen - I enjoy using the archaic and posh ones the most. I am curious about the world, and love to learn new things, see new things, hear new things, do new things. But, as they say, curiosity killed the cat.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Not a month after learning about CS, it became my favourite way of travelling: you meet so many new people, each unique in his/her experience and with an insiders view on the city he/she lives in.

Interests

Volleyball - I really enjoy this sport, and I like to think I do good saves - maybe we could play and you could comment on that?

Programming - I always have a couple programming projects going on, and spent most of the time I am quiet or commuting thinking about how to finish them.

Music, Movies, and Books

I rarely go to the cinema. But I did see a couple of films and the ones I liked best were: A Good Year, Definately Maybe, Star Trek

I am a REALLY BIG on TV series. I enjoy House, Fringe, Burn Notice, Chuck, White Collar; basically anything that has a main story which is developed in every episode!

I have absolutely no clue about what music is or how it is made, but I do enjoy listening to many different genres (at least I think I do, because I have no idea what I listen to). My diversified music library includes: Amy Macdonald, A Fine Frenzy, Barenaked Ladies, Beatles, Linkin Park, Texas, The Corrs, Frightened Rabbit, Faded Cadence, Paula Cole, Roxette (the first CD we had when I was 6 - it was stuck in the car for 5 years straight)

I enjoy reading fantasy: Paulini (Eragon, ...), Trudi Canavan, Wiedzmin (The Witcher) by Sapkowski; one of the books still on my reading list is "The Road to Reality", a guide to the inner working of our universe by Sir Robert Penrose

And web comics! I closely follow CAD, Misfile, Go get a Roomie, XKCD, SMBC, Mimi and Eunice, Questionable Content, Nichtlustig. If you know any good ones, let me know!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Saw the northern lights
Watched the fireworks on the French National Day from a hill by the sea, while a storm churned over some cliffs on the other side of the valley
Running away from an adult elephant in the middle of the night (on foot)
Recieving a full-body lick from 3 cheetahs simultaneously

Teach, Learn, Share

Science! I love to talk about anything scientifical, especially computer science, maths, physics, medicine, linguistics.

Survival skills: I attended a few summer camps some years back, where I acquired these. I can tell you what is good firewood, and how to start a fire and keep it burning, how it should be formed (albeit I cannot pitch a tent :( )

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Monaco, Namibia, Netherlands, Oman, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States
