About Me

ABOUT ME

I am a caring person that is there for others. I went to the US Naval Academy and served 5 years active duty and then 10 as a reserve officer. I was married for 12 years and then my former wife decided she wanted a divorce, which I did not fight. I saw a lot of the world while in college and the navy, then working as a Nuclear Engineer in the industry. I worked there until 2004 and was laid off twice, followed by trying to start a company for over 2 years, which in turn caused the divorce.

PHILOSOPHY

We are gifts to those around us

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am a caring man that gives to others. I enjoy singing and being there as part of peoples lives.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

A number of times I had to use a friends couch rather than be homeless. For 20 of the past 26 months a lady friend stayed on my couch until she got her own place. After a few years on her own she lost her place again. she shares the bed with me, so I have a couch where one person could sleep in the living room.

Interests

I have a lot of attention on others, giving them the time needed regardless of the distance. I am a disabled veteran and am working to form an organization helping other veterans get the help they deserve. Due to the disability I am eligible for vocational rehab and work toward a career in human services.

I am now an Advocate with the Homeless Voices for justice at Preble Street, a non-profit up in Portland, ME. It is a state-wide social change movement, organized and led by people who have struggled with homelessness. It is a grassroots effort based on the belief that true change occurs only when those affected by an unjust system are directly involved in addressing the injustices and in which disenfranchised people become empowered and gain leadership skills to organize and advocate for institutional change.

Most of my time is in communication with others, with a lot via the internet. I have over a thousand friends on facebook.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Having God work in my life in a way that brought my parents together for the last 9 months of my mother's life via a miracle...

The feeling of love felt as my former wife came down the aisle as we were married.
