ABOUT ME
I'm a composer. I write just about any kind of music and play just about anything and everything. In order to compose for a given instrument I usually rent or borrow that instrument for a while and teach myself how to play it. For that reason I play a wide variety of instruments. I am very interested in all types of music and in sound as a general phenomenon. At one point before I began attending my present school (California Institute of the Arts) I was working towards becoming a mathematician and have therefore done all my lower division studies in mathematics. I'm still interested but have set it aside in order to focus on composition.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I have only ever surfed with random people I happen to meet, and when I provide couches for people, they tend to be strangers until that day. That being said, I have surfed a few times and have provided couches to a number of people, and it's always a good time. I'd like to couch surf in Europe in order to save some money, and once I do have a permanent address in the US again (around January) I will definitely make a couch available.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
One of the most interesting was when I was living in a very small space and three friends were sleeping over and we met a couple who were in berkeley for the guy's sister's wedding but had only been able to afford one night in a hotel and so had no place to stay for that night (they had hitchhiked down from Vancouver). I let them crash on the couch and stuffed all my friends onto my bed. We all spent the night talking and playing music. The guy was quite a good singer and wrote some interesting songs. I offered to record some of them for him and I did and burnt the tracks to a cd for him. The songs were quite good and I still have the recordings and listen to them from time to time.
Interests
Everything and anything given that it is interesting. More specifically: music (rock, jazz, classical, hip-hop, r&b, funk, metal, klezmer, folk, world music, experimental, blues, hardcore, punk, etc etc), math, vegetarian food, education, books, history, art, politics, poetry, bicycling, running.

Music, Movies, and Books
music is good any time of day for any activity. the absence of music is equally entertaining but extended silence does get boring quickly unless you're sleeping or working. books are a good way to learn. I enjoy learning very very much. specific authors: dostoevsky, shakespeare, voltaire, bill watterson
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Played music with a live ensemble in a venue full of both friends and strangers who enjoyed the performance. Having some of those people come up to me after the show to say how impressed they were with the band and with my band mates.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you how to play just about anything if you've never played it before. If you want tips about playing a particular style of music I can probably help, and if you already play decently I can help you out with piano clarinet or guitar (i focus more on those three instruments than anything else). I can help you with math through multivariable calculus/linear algebra/differential equations. I'm very good with algebra.
