À propos de moi

CURRENT MISSION

Travel out of the ordinary, see what the places I go to are like for folks that live there

ABOUT ME

Brit looking to explore new places, try new things, new foods.... experience life really! Oh and not think about work for a while!

Travelled for about a year in 2013, getting the bug again but can only manage holidays at the moment.

About to head to Costa Rica, to Tamarindo to perhaps try some free diving, maybe some scuba and maybe some attempts to surf. I've booked some space in a hostel for the first few days but would like to explore a little more, I've not been to Costa Rica before so if I get a chance to find out more about Costa Rica then that's fabulous :)

I don't smoke, I'm pescatarian (eat fish, dairy etc but not meat) but not precious if you do eat meat. What else do you want to know? Message me.

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm a newbie, and have been since 2008. I was signed up to the old format, but it never worked out that I was in town when anyone actually wanted to stay in Hendon (my address at the time). Then I moved, didn't log in for an age, signed up to Meetup instead and lost my login details.

I tended towards wwoofing, some AirBnB, hostels, dodgy Asian hotels, friends and family's homes, bashers in the jungle and home stays whilst travelling. I did look again on here whilst in Aus but there were too many blokes wanting me to share their bed :s

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've not taken the plunge yet.

Centres d'intérêt

Adrenaline sports like snowboarding, surfing, climbing, kitesurfing. Travel (obviously!), yoga, reading, music, food. I'm an expert at nothing but I give most things a try.

Topics of conversation? I can pretty much natter on about anything, I'm strong minded about discrimination but happy to debate (or be informed of) any issue really.

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

I am reading English translations of Urdu poetry currently thanks to another Couchsurfer. I like a few of the Russian classics. I have read most of what Terry Pratchett has written, I would absolutely recommend David Attenborough's Life On Air and I rather like Carol Ann Duffy's poetry.

Music, I have an eclectic taste, it all depends on my mood, tho I struggle to listen to Jazz or Country.

Scary movies scare me. I tend to go for a comedy, perhaps something that makes you think differently about society, or some epic trilogy or other like LOTR for example. I can get into a romance flick now and then but it has to be good.

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

Lived in the Borneo jungle for 3 months in 2013 volunteering as project manager for a youth development charity. It's an amazing place.

Enseignez, apprenez, partagez

I can make halloumi (and other cheeses) as well as continuous coil baskets. I can dry stone wall. Um.... I can show you how to make the easiest and yummiest chocolate biscuits. I could also talk you through making a gravity feed water system.

I'm learned a little about what the Aussies call Permaculture, the Brits I guess have used companion planting, crop rotation etc in cottage gardens for a long time but it's interesting to learn how this is applied in other settings. I could show you how to milk a goat if you happen to have any hanging around waiting.

I'd like to learn how to get by in the local language, and the nuances of difference in other cultures fascinates me. Help me understand a little of your home town and I'd be very happy.
