About Me

People have described me as curious, adventurous, open-minded, free-spirited, positive, easygoing, intelligent, quiet, and kind. I was born and raised in California, but I'm about to move to Colorado in less than a month. I love traveling, and even though I didn't get the chance to travel much growing up, it's something I want to do a lot more of as an adult. I've travelled around the US extensively, but haven't explored much of the rest of the world yet. I love visiting new places, meeting new people, and learning about cultures. I'm always willing to try new things and I'm always eager to learn as much as I can about everything I can. I'm very lucky to have been hosted by some excellent hosts through Couchsurfing, and I'm hoping to start hosting others myself soon once I get settled down in Colorado.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I joined Couchsurfing to find places to stay while I'm traveling and to host travelers who visit the places I live in. I want to meet and hang out with people from all over the world, whether they're hosting me or I'm hosting them. I've only surfed so far but I hope to start hosting too in the next few months once I have a living situation that allows for that.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love to read, I read almost every day. I mostly read fiction but I read a lot of non-fiction as well. The books I end up liking best tend to be classic works of literature, epics, and adventure stories. Some of my favorites include A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, The Odyssey, War and Peace, To Kill a Mockingbird, On the Road, and One Hundred Years of Solitude.

I love movies almost as much as I love books. I prefer dramas, independent and foreign films, westerns, and samurai films. I don't watch many hollywood blockbusters, but I love superhero movies, especially Marvel movies. I also love animated films, especially the works of Pixar and Studio Ghibli. My favorite directors are Sergio Leone, Akira Kurosawa, David Lean, John Ford, Hayao Miyazaki, David Fincher, and Christopher Nolan.

I listen to a pretty wide variety of music, but I listen to folk, indie, hip-hop, electronic, and world music more than anything else. There's a few weird, obscure genres I really like too: afrobeat, dream pop, early rock-n-roll from the 50s, ska from the 90s, and a few others. I have pretty eclectic taste when it comes to music. My favorite album is Helplessness Blues by Fleet Foxes, with The Suburbs by Arcade Fire being a close second.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Earlier this year I went on a four-month solo backpacking trip across the United States. I started in California, took the western states to the east coast, then took the southern states back. I visited over 30 different places all over the country, using Greyhound buses to get from place to place. I stayed with Couchsurfing hosts at the majority of places I stopped at. By the end of the trip I had visited almost every major city in America.
