One of the most exciting and culturally diverse cities in Latin America, Bogota is home to colonial architecture, amazing food, and some of the friendliest locals you’ll find anywhere. The heart of the city is Plaza de Bolivar, where you’ll find the National Capitol Building, Palace of Justice, and the Cathedral of Bogota. From the city center, embark on a free graffiti walking tour to see vibrant works by talented artists depicting the Colombian people’s culture and struggles.
Take the funicular to the summit of Cerro Monserrate, which offers unbeatable views of Bogota both day and night. The summit is more than 10,000 feet above sea level and boasts a historic church and shrine at the top where many offer prayers. For a great day trip outside the city, make your way to Villa de Leyva, a small Spanish village in the Colombian Highlands that has preserved its streets and buildings, making it look like the town has been frozen in time for decades.
