About Me

I grew up in a small town in Germany (about 40 min. from Frankfurt) and I've been a curious kid from the very beginning. In my second year in elementary school I started listing data about all the countries of the world in endless charts and did research on eeeeeeeeeverything of interest for a (weird) child like me. My constant longing for experiences and knowledge made me run away from home a lot and moving out early. I was quite the troubled kid, got kicked out of school twice but made it back to the Gymnasium (German equivalent of the American high school) were I started and graduated. I always thought I hate school, but over time had to realise I miss the talking and debating we did in philosophy-, german-, english-, arts-, politics- and social science class. I gained quite some knowledge on politics, geography and history (and my brain can store shitloads of useless random facts on basically any subject). I like to think of myself as an autodidact, but unless something really excites me I tend to lack discipline and focus (working on that).

I'm open-minded, curious, chaotic, often political, direct, vegetarian (not the annoying type, I promise!) and honest.

I married my wonderful German-Russian-Kazakh-Ukrainian-Tartarian wife in Las Vegas in April 2017. We live in Israel now and work in a psychiatric clinic. I know for sure that I want to study, but I can't say what, when and where yet.

In late 2018 we will move to Seoul, South Korea.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm using couch surfing to get in touch with new people and see the world not only from my own perspective but also through the eyes of "locals". I want to learn from others experiences and share my own ones. And of course I'm also trying to save money and help other travellers keep a budget ;)

Interests

I went to Paris by bike when I was 14, got my first motorcycle licence with 16 (~25.000km/15,000mi experience) and I have more than 100.000km/60,000mi experience in driving a car (did a lot of road trips and worked as a pizza delivery boy). While travelling, I can always enjoy the transportation part, no matter if I'm on a plane, train or ship; sitting in a Car, riding a motorbike or whatever.

I enjoy hiking and mountain biking (but I’m unfortunate enough to get my bike stolen over and over again; yes I use locks!). I like camping.

I’m reading a lot, but most recently I’m more into audiobooks because you can listen to them while working, cooking or driving.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love to read nonfiction, historical novels, biographies (!), magazines and newspapers :3

While I don't play an Instrument myself (regret it), I know a lot of music and I've been to music festivals (small and huge) all over Europe and Israel. I love Techno (Acid Pauli, Stimming, David August, Scuba, Magdalena, Maceo Plex), old and new Jazz stuff (Oscar Peterson Trio, Hiatus Kaiyote), Indie/Electro/Weird stuff (Buttering Trio, Dimlite, Karen Dun, Alt-j) and all kinds of other music that I don’t exactly know how to categorize such as: Jonathan Wilson, Israel Nash, The Wilco, Damien Rice, Eddie Vedder, Oktalogue

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I married in Las Vegas and went to Alaska for honeymoon. While exploring hot springs north of the arctic circle I was just ten seconds away from being run over by a small sports plane, coming out of nowhere and approaching to land on a remote dirt-landing strip that I didn't expect to still be in use.
