About Me

CURRENT MISSION

"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness..." Mark Twain

ABOUT ME

We are at home in the mountains of Tennessee, the flatlands of the Midwest, and the high forest of southern Kenya. We're at home wherever the coffee pot is on and friends are gathered to visit. I serve as pastor and teacher; Marcia teaches Art. Our home is home to mostly grown kids and a steady stream of friends and neighbors. There's always room for one more.

PHILOSOPHY

One more Stevenson quote: I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel's sake. The great affair is to move, to feel the needs and hitches of our life more nearly, to come down off this feather-bed of civilisation, and find the globe granite underfoot and strewn with cutting flints."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have couchsurfed in several countries, and we have hosted a number of folks too. Every stay has been positive.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've slept on many Maasai cowskins, where one gets warm and sleepy after a good meal and a hot cup of smokey chai. The goats nibble at your socks, the fire crackles and smokes, and I feel at home. I had a great time during the Summer of '09 couchsurfing in Amsterdam, South Africa, Scotland, and France.
