About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Exploring ideas about community and volunteerism, backpacking and being out in nature whenever I get the chance

ABOUT ME

Volunteering has been a central theme in my personal and professional life and has brought me to amazing people, places, and experiences. Most of this has been in the US, so I left my life of ten years in Washington, DC in April 2010 to travel and volunteer abroad (May 2010-May 2011). During this time I traveled to nine countries, participated in informational meetings with 26 nonprofit orgs/NGOs, and had 13 CS hosts.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

The experience of being hosted is amazing and always offers me new insight. It is incredibly helpful to have hosts help in navigating the cities, food, and language.. while also offering the opportunity to share and exchange.

Music, Movies, and Books

A few bands from my ipod right now.... the XX, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Sharon Jones and the DapKings, Caribou, Passion Pit, High Places, Here We Go Magic, MIA, Bon Iver, Dr. Dog, Yo La Tengo, Catherine Wheel, and M Ward.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hitchhiking in the southern part of Iceland to hike and camp for five days.

Spending a year building houses with Habitat for Humanity in Denver, Colorado and supporting low income families in becoming homeowners. Once a home is finished, the community comes together to dedicate the house, which is always an inspiring event.

Left my life of nine years in Washington, DC and took a year to travel, volunteer, couchsurf, and trek in Asia, Europe, and South America.

Teach, Learn, Share

In the summer 2010, I lead a couple of international work camps (volunteers) with a nonprofit organization in Iceland and taught a few volunteers how to play ultimate frisbee. It was an amazing experience and made up for not being able to find a pick up game in Reykjavik.

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Cambodia, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Denmark, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Peru, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, United States, Uruguay, Viet Nam
