About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Finally live. Take each opportunity and don't let it pass. Today begins the next step of the journey.

ABOUT ME

I have now moved from newly graduated (2009) to career professional working for a non profit (Hostelling International USA) as a Community Outreach Coordinator. I've always been somewhat of a wanderer, living in 5 different states and continuously in pursuit of travel. Travel has now become a huge part of my life. If you have questions, ask. As cliche as it is, I truly am an open book.

PHILOSOPHY

We can't change the past. We can only work on today in hopes that it prepares the way for a better future.

Life is not about serving our own needs, but working with one another to serve and meet the needs of the masses. It is through true, intentional community we can find equality, love, care and hope.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

For the past two years, most of my overnights have been spent on couches, whether my own or friends' places. Through it I have become very low maintenance and almost prefer a couch over a bed (somewhat odd I guess). I guess a couch makes me feel less confined and a little more community oriented, as in anyone can walk in and sit beside me at any time. Couchsurfed my way through southern and eastern Africa. The best experience of my life.

Interests

Anything from travels to athletics to music and performing arts and anywhere in between. As all, I have preferences, but prefer to experience the perspectives of others along my life journey. I am always awaiting the next adventure or suggestion from a friend or stranger.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: Dark Star Safari, Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, Solitary Blue.

Movies: Goonies, Sandlot and Avatar (truly like any genre)

Music: Anything and everything. Let's have some variety in our lives.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Bungee jumped off of the bridge that hangs between Zambia and Zimbabwe at Victoria Falls. Something I would have never expected to do, but something I will most likely do again.

Planned and completed my road trip through southern and eastern Africa. 9 countries in 3 months. Simply amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

It is through travel and one-on-one interaction that the barriers of this world can be broken down and culture can become vibrant and live up to its fullest potential.

In my experience, I have found that when couchsurfing (or really any part of life), you must go in with NO expectations. Everytime I travel, I go with the HOPE of meeting people and having amazing interactions and creating life-long relationships. BUT, I also go with knowing anything can happen, and therefore only expect the minimal. In this way, any more than the minimal becomes an added bonus. ALSO remember, when traveling, YOU are a guest. Be respectful and don't expect to be treated like a KING/QUEEN (although more often than not, you will be).

Countries I’ve Visited

Botswana, Egypt, Kenya, Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia
