About Me
My name is Afonso. I'm 24 and I was born and have always lived in Lisbon. I just finished my Master degree in Medicine and decided to take a gap year befora entering the specialty. I also play drums in a cool emerging band (eheh), Basset Hounds, which is trying to find it's place in the Portuguese Indie scene.
This is probably a huge cliché but I really enjoy meeting and get to knowing different people from different places even though I might appear a bit shy at first. This was a pleasure I acquired and realised not a long time ago.
I simply adore Lisbon and I love to show it to everyone and to convince people to move here. I guess the city does that on it's own. I mean it: i'd love to walk you around town.
Some more? Well. I love to drink and go out with friends but you won't see me doing that every night. I like to go out in the garden and just lay in the grass but I guess you won't see me doing that everyday either. I like to get a beer and drink it by the river, or just listening to a new album sitting somewhere with a nice view, or just reading a nice book with a cup of tea by my side but yeah, not everyday.
My dreamjob would be to write what I like to call Life Reviews. It's basically writing reviews but about the things you do in life, not only the amazing and fantastic stuff you do but also the ordinary stuff. Like a Review on Having a band. Studying Medicine. Going to a wedding. Going to a funeral. Getting the papers done for your new Citizen ID card. Wasting a whole afternoon watching crappy movies or on facebook. Building a raft. Riding a crowded bus on a hot day. Stuff like that, stuff that happens in life. So that if you were interested in, let's imagine, Dating a Portuguese girl, you could check my review and see the pros and the cons of it, what I thought about it, if it's really worthy... You know, Life Reviews.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Basically, to meet new people.
I love to show Lisbon around, it's one of my favourite hobbies.
And I am also going on a three month trip to SE Asia, through Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam and Cabodia, starting in December 7th. I think Couchsurfing might be one of the best ways to meet people along the journey.
And I find this the most amazing way to meet new people. Not just people, but nice people: someone who's willing to accept you in his home or to meet you and to help you and show you around has got to be someone awesome. And I believe that even when travelling alone, a huge part of the awesomeness of your trip comes from the people you meet.

Music, Movies, and Books
I liked Arctic Monkeys before they forgot who they were and started wearing leather jackets. ATM I am in love with Kurt Vile's last album.
I like books.
I like Wes Anderson.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Can it be two? These are probably the two things I've done which I'm most proud of, so far.
I got together with some friends and we projected, built and enjoyed a raft, a 15m2 monster, that we used to go down the Zêzere river. We lived, ate, slept and loved eachother 24/24h on our floatable home for a week. It was beyond awesome.
The second thing is having recorded and releasd a full LP with my band. It was one of my life goals and I actually did it.
Teach, Learn, Share
I would love to teach you Portuguese and some basic drumming.
I would love the share the music I listen to with you and to give your music a try. I would like to have the guts ask random people one the bus to swap headphones with me, just for that ride.
