About Me

I come from the Dominican Republic, granddaughter of Chinese immigrants. I studied Fine Arts and Illustration back in my country. Loving the arts, but still not being sure about what I could do with it, I came to China. I studied Mandarin for a year and later enrolled in an Art Education program; in it I finally found an area of work that inspires me to commit to it and grow within it. Currently I am collaborating with an organization that focuses in social inclusion; with them I work with an art program focused on empowerment in a migrant school in Shanghai.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Since I arrived to Shanghai last September (2016), I've come to like a lot the city, and all the things we can do in it. I find that Couchsurfing is a good way to meet new people, travelers looking forward to discover this great city, which I would be very happy to help with. Unfortunately, because I live at the dorms of the school, I can't host any travelers. But I would love to have the opportunity of meeting new people, interested in going around the city, visit exhibitions, eat local food, etc. And because I can speak Chinese, I think I can be a good tourist guide!

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy them in different ways, I don’t believe I have a favorite of any of them.
But a book I’ve been retaking for over a year is ‘El libro de los abrazos’. It’s a compilation of short stories by Eduardo Galeano about life, art, politics and society; it’s my latest ‘answer book’.

Teach, Learn, Share

My studies have taught me a lot of theory, visually, conceptually, etc. But along the way, I’ve learned much more from experience and from people I’ve met, about them and myself. This has given me perspective, and the ability to feel comfortable with myself. And I’m always eager to share and keep learning.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belgium, China, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Macao, Netherlands, Scotland, Spain, Taiwan, United Kingdom, United States
