About Me

Salom :) That’s how we say ‘hello’ in Uzbek.
My name is Umida. It means ‘Hope’ in Uzbek and my father named me so because he was hoping to have a daughter 😇 Most of my friends call me Umi and so can you :) Umi means ‘the sea’ in Japanese.
Currently, I live in Japan. After I graduated from the University here a couple of years ago, I started working.
In my spare time I mostly try to explore various locations in Tokyo and try out new activities. If I simply describe myself in three words, that would be: crazy, adventurous and optimistic🤪
I’m an active energetic person who is passionate about traveling and photography. Right now, I’m also keen on dancing and swimming.

*Disclaimer* Sarcasm and irony are my close friends.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

After traveling for the first time, I realized how meeting local people and getting acquainted with their lifestyle and culture makes a trip truly special. Every traveling experience seems special because everyone seems so different and unique, yet there is some connection and similarities between all of us. Particularly, I like getting to know about people’s traveling stories, their experiences and about their culture. Sharing stories, thoughts, ideas with each other usually always makes me think about something from a totally different viewpoint and that is when things get more interesting! Therefore, I think Couchsurfing is a great platform where people can connect with each other from all over the world! 🙃

Music, Movies, and Books

Favorite movies: Pixar animation movies;

Favorite books: ‘The Master and Margarita’ by Mikhail Bulgakov
‘The Alchemist’ by Paulo Coelho
‘The Little Prince’ by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

Favorite music: Any music that makes me feel happy or matches my mood when I listen to it. Meaningful lyrics do matter

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Dropped out of university in my country and entered Japanese University to pursue my dreams of studying abroad!)

Teach, Learn, Share

Six packs from continuous laughing and wrinkles from happy smiling, haha😄

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love cooking and experimenting in the kitchen with the recipes to prepare healthy food. It would be pretty fun if we cook traditional food of each other’s countries together 😊 I am also interested in photography and playing the piano. Recently, I started practicing playing the guitar. If you too are interested in playing the guitar, we can definitely learn some chords together.
I love reading books and discussing some deeper topics about life, the meaning of it, values, mindfulness, etc. It’s interesting to think and talk about why people share the same or totally different from each other thoughts.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, Cambodia, France, Germany, Indonesia, Malaysia, Netherlands, Singapore, Thailand, Viet Nam
