About Me

Hi! I'm Willemijn.

I love travelling and I enjoy sharing the best stories, photos and recipes from my travels on my blog.

I'm currently saving money for a big trip next year: I'm hoping to travel all the way from Holland to Hong Kong by train. This means I (probably) won't be travelling until then. I thought it'd be cool to meet up with some travellers in the meantime.

Gorinchem isn't an internationally well known city, but I think it's interesting nonetheless. It's got a rich history, dating back centuries, and became part of the "Hollandic Water Line" in the 17th century, a water based defense line for Holland, which gave the city centre its star shaped map.
In short, Gorinchem is a small, but typically Dutch city, away from the majority of tourists.

Also: the world famous windmills of Kinderdijk are about 25 minutes away from here by car. These are a UNESCO world heritage site. By bus, it would take about an hour and twenty minutes, but the route goes through the flat countryside and partially follows the river Lek.

In your request, please let me know what it is you’d like to see or do here, and I can help you plan.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'd like to meet people from all over the world. It fascinates me to learn what makes us different. And what makes us all the same! And of course to share travel stories with each other.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love rock music and I really enjoy going to concerts.
I love to read. I prefer British and Dutch classics. My favourite genres are historical fiction and dystopian stories.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Graduating and getting my degree was pretty amazing.
So was road tripping across Europe (which I've done twice now).

Teach, Learn, Share

I could teach you some Dutch, and I'd like to think I'm a good cook. I’d love to learn about other people’s culture and recipes from their home country.
