Overview
About Me
Nature is our greater resource! 🏞️
Hey, my name is John and I'm a lawyer and human rights activist from Bolivia🇧🇴. Coming from a loving family but humble background, it was a surprise to me being awarded with a scholarship in 2018 to pursue a master degree in Development and HRights in the UK🇬🇧🛫 since then I used my experience as a human rights advocate to volunteer and intern in NGOs from developing countries around the world🌎🌍🌏
My life's mission is to address issues of poverty, inequality, environmental degradation, and indigenous peoples' rights protection. As a result, I'm highly interested in visiting new countries and immersing myself in their life, culture, history, and people:)
I believe that we (human beings) have a greater role in this world than flowing within a system that reproduce inequalities and deprivation at the expense of underprivileged individuals.
Being aware of the previous condition summed up with an ongoing personal struggle that took many years of my life (depression), unveiled my interest in spirituality and mindfulness, which derived in an unstoppable desire for exploring religions, ancient cultures, old traditions and people from all around the world.
In summary... I am a very energetic person with a revolutionary but relaxed spirit, and a curious mind that is trying to understand his role in the universe/world/society/family, etc.
Where am I going?
Where will I arrive?
And, what is next for me?
Breath... embrace this moment...All is gone or turns insignificant!
As a surfer, I enjoy a lot connecting through what comes spontaneously out of my heart, so I hope you don't mind if I share some personal experiences along the way :)
UPDATE
I'm currently working in Panama for the UN as a consultant for environment and human rights🏞️. At the same time, I'm the founder of the project "REDAMPIC Bolivia" dedicated to the protection of indigenous peoples and Afrobolivians' rights in relation to the environment 🌿 and ancestral knowledges🌌 If you can connect me with someone interested in the topic, I'd be more than grateful to you!!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I love trying new things and aventures, leaving aside our judgemental mindsets for a while to engage with the local experience and reality.
I'm willing to engage in a journey of local discovery, trying new food, using the local transportation, exploring unconventional places and connecting with people living in those environments.
Interests
I love old history (not an expert), understanding different religions and customs and finding new books to read around almost any topic (novels, politics, religion and myths, sociology, philosophy as my favorites).
I'm generally a quiet person, but I can't help hanging out to grab some drinks and dance whenever I feel that I didn't party in a long time, lol.
Above all, I like to connect with people avoiding superficial conversations🌿
Currently, I'm working on strengthening my body, so any advice or tips on this are more than welcome 💪🏽

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
✔️I went volunteering in India with two human rights NGOs, but soon after that, I ended up investing most of my time in a spiritual experience that took me through the teachings of the Gita, Buddhism, ancient Andean traditional medicine and philosophy.
✔️I participated in a two month meditation retreat with monks from the Dhammakaya Tradition in Thailand 🇹🇭
✔️I survived a typhoon in the Philippines after having done some careless scuba diving at one of the most biodiverse areas for marine conservation.
✔️I went through two mind-blowing spiritual experiences by resorting to ancient medicine from my indigenous background and inheritance.
✔️I'm leading a civil society organization in charge of promoting and defending the territorial and ancestral rights of indigenous communities.
✔️ Currently employed by the United Nations in a project aimed at addressing the triple planetary crisis (pollution, climate change, and biodiversity loss)
