About Me

Hi! my name is Aarón. I am from San Diego, but grew up in Mexicali, Mexico. I am currently travelling my home state of Baja California and starting Jan 15, 2020 I will be travelling Europe, Turkey, and the southern parts of the Caucasus until April 15th. I just graduated from the University in South Dakota and joined the community to get to know the places I am visiting with locals and make new friends along the way. I am an anthropologist and public and nonprofit administrator looking for one more long experience before settling down a bit.
2009: I started my first alone trip by going to Jalisco and Colima in central Mexico for two months.
2010: Went to New York City, Montreal, New Brunswick and Ontario for winter as I wanted to see the snow for the first time in my life and wanted to practice my French while in Canada.
2011: I was unemployed because of the economic crisis, so I ended up traveling and working in Alaska for a salmon processing and fishing plant in the town of Naknek.
2012: As I ran out of money for finishing my university, I went back to Alaska for another summer and after that I moved to South Dakota to finish school as I wanted to improve my English and experience another culture from my own.
2014: As a gift for finishing my bachelors, I went to Manitoba and Minnesota as I wanted to see Lake Superior in Duluth and lake Winnipeg in Gimli for a couple of weeks before starting my master’s degree.
2015: I ended up working as an intern for a nonprofit in the Dominican Republic and working primarily in sustainable agriculture in Santo Domingo and the southern part of the Hispaniola island.
2016: I was still in South Dakota and just did a couple of trips back to Mexico to visit family and spent the holidays somewhere warmer than the average Midwest.
2017: Went back to the D.R., but this time as a tourist getting to know Santo Domingo even more by exploring the local history and got time to visit Las Terrenas and Punta Cana.
2018: As I was done with classes, I moved to Iowa to work in Okoboji as a server and sometimes bartender.
2019: I started my required internship in Yuma, Arizona at a nonprofit working with elderly people in affordable healthcare in order to finish my master’s and the second part of the year was spent back in the upper Midwest working again as a server and bartender in Iowa and South Dakota as I was saving money for this 2020 trip to Europe and the Middle East.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am primarily looking for places that are normally left off the main touristic places as I am looking to know more about the local cultures, language, food, and other interesting not so common things about the different regions and cultures that I visit.
