About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To be a happy person.

ABOUT ME

I left Australia early in 2007 with not much money and no clear idea of when I would return. No changes there then. The plan was to learn more about myself and about life in order to be a happier person. That plan still takes a lot of priority.

I have spent most of my time in Europe teaching English in Spain, which was a little rough for me. I also poked around central Europe in what would have been nothing more than a token gesture if it wasn't for the beautiful friends I met and made (and miss) along the way. Oh and snowboarding.

I was well and truly bitten by the snowboarding bug and it has been one of the highlights of my time away. But for a guy who is far more obsessed with his own thoughts than his future career, snowboarding is not a cheap hobby to keep. Having enjoyed the slopes in Kitzbühel, it's back to Spain I go.

I am a calm guy, friendly and respectful while I try to be sunny. I love meaningful surprises, even if they are negative sometimes. I always want to chase something. I don't smoke, I only drink if I have to, and I am often way, way too distracted by my thoughts to get on with just enjoying life. Overall, I'm pretty tame.

PHILOSOPHY

Learn to always be proud of yourself. Don't play defensive when it isn't a sin not to.

Unless you genuinely believe in a guilt you feel, it is often a mistake to let yourself play the defensive role for your actions and feelings. You can always look for the ways to find the self-assured confidence.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Well I'm still a wanderer. One day I'll be able to return the favours to the community.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Excellent of course. Couchsurfing brings out the good in people.

Interests

Self discovery, for real. Nothing interests me more than understanding myself, but snowboarding is currently in a strong second place.

I now find I want to do a lot of things that a traveller can't. Sticking around friends is one good example, and you'll have to ask about the rest.

Music, Movies, and Books

Favourite movie would have to be Hero, with Jet Li. The Castle is also great. I'm not a huge movie buff, and my taste is pretty typical. Black Hawk Down, Terminator 1 & 2, FFVII:AC.. blah blah. I really enjoyed Happy Feet hehe, but that might have been the company. :)

Music? You don't want to know. Pretty sunny, quite dinky, most of it is lyric-free. I was DJing at an icerink for a while, and added a bit of "typical consumer" to my taste as well, I have to admit. I'm really interested in seeing what Europe's radio stations are like. Will Ireland's radio stations be playing Jimeoin? Haha. :P

As for books, well I enjoy reading but it has to be good at drawing you in. Most of my favourites are sci fi, although I think I've gotten over it alot. However, Ender's Saga, Dune 1, the original Jurassic Parks and the Night's Dawn trilogy are all 5 star stories in my opinion. The Power of One is also extremely readable - I disliked the idea when I got it, but couldn't stop reading. Oh, and of course, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. Yeah, I loved that. His non-fiction title, Last Chance to See, was also really good.

Teach, Learn, Share

Often the difference between wanting and achieving is determined by your ability to imagine it happening. You can not achieve if you can't truly and clearly imagine your goal existing.

"We are only limited by our imagination" is not an optimistic quote. It is sad how true it is and how much is wasted. To achieve anything, learn to imagine.
