About Me

Hi there! My name is Adam, I'm 24 years old, and I'm from the UK. I'm currently reading for a doctorate in English at the University of Oxford and working as a tutor. I'm passionate about all forms and kinds of literature, from the Medieval to the Modern, and absolutely obsessed with playing guitar!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I first used couchsurfing back in 2019 when travelling solo across the States and I made some friends for life in the process. I love this community and couldn't wait to hop back on once the world began to open up again. I'm heading to Sweden in September to teach a few seminars at universities across the country. If anyone could host me for a couple of nights in Lund or Stockholm, I'd be eternally grateful!

Music, Movies, and Books

My music taste is all over the place and I'm always looking for new recommendations! Recently I've been absolutely rinsing the latest Meshuggah album (seeing them twice earlier this year was life-changing), diving into Converge's discography, and filling in the blanks in my knowledge of Radiohead.

Recently I've really enjoyed Lars von Trier's 'Melancholia', the sci-fi body horror of 'Upgrade', and my 19th rewatch of 'Paddington 2'.

My list of favourite books shifts all the time, but most recently I've had my heart broken by James Baldwin's 'Giovanni's Room', and had it restored by Gillian Rose's memoir 'Love's Work'. Right now I'm reading 'The Book of Trespass' by Nick Hayes, which I'd recommend to each and every couchsurfer out there. Its weaving of protest history and rebellion with great nature writing is phenomenal.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have a black belt in Karate and competed at the European championships when I was a teenager, coming third in sparring!

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to teach guitar and all kinds of literature, I'd like to learn how to speak Icelandic and Swedish fluently, and most of all, I love sharing stories with the people I meet.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Heartfelt conversation, an outrageously British accent, and lasting friendship 😊
